Bluetooth Boosters Push Ease of Use
Better late than never - the Bluetooth SIG finally figured out that most of the implementations out there aren't simple enough for consumers to take out of the box and use.
"The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has kicked off this week's Bluetooth Developers Conference here by announcing an initiative to make it easier for consumers to set up products that use the short-range wireless technology. The "5-Minute Ready" program announced Tuesday will include implementation guides for vendors, reference testing platforms, and an interoperability testing facility sponsored by the Bluetooth SIG. For consumers, it includes a redesigned Web site with a feature for helping buyers find Bluetooth products. The SIG also will come up with a standard lexicon for the technology, in 33 languages, in part to foster better user manuals. All the initial parts of the initiative will be in place by the end of the first quarter of 2003, and other elements may be added later, according to Mike McCamon, executive director of the SIG."

...and a good thing too!
What a good idea... says a man who once spent 2 days trying to configure a Bluetooth device.
OK device drivers and associated software are becoming a LOT easier to use. The new drivers for the TDK Bluetooth USB adaptor in my PC are a dream to use and MUCH better than the previous versions.

Just showed this press statement (without Jason's comments) to a friend who was having difficulty with Bluetooth... his response? "Uhm OK... what does all of that mean?"...
Here's hoping their new manuals (w/ new lexicon) will be easier to follow than this press release... :?

I love the concept of BT and hope thing will pick up a little more with BT. unlike 802.11b/a BT is universal. 802.11 is just a network protocol so more power to BT.
As for BT config, I never had too much trouble with the BT configs. I managed to set up my BT phone, headset, and my PDA within minutes and I even managed to connnect to my friend's mac OSX the other day. But then again, I am a geek.

Are they going to make things work together as well ? I still have a huge incompatibility issue with a 3Com PCMCIA bluetooth adapter and a Siemens Loox. Profiles match, but they hate eachothers guts. No way in earth this combo is working.....

Whens a standard not really a standard?
When it applies to Bluetooth, WLAN, and the upcoming SDIO.
Don't know whether to  or  . but, the Bluetooth SIG should be ops: that this wasn't implemented from the get go.
Here's an article that sums it up pretty well...
