The ultimate tool
I believe that pervasive technologies, most specifically like the Pocket PC, are the future. And their power stems from being able to become almost any tool for any job. Like the Star Trek Tricorder, a PPC device is evolving in the same manner. With a click of a few icons, the unit can do TCP dumps on an ethernet network, and in other modes, it can perform motion control. Data acquisition with control, sensing, and monitoring are just the beginning. To call a PPC simply a "PDA" is under estimating its potential. While it is a business tool for most; I firmly believe that such devices will become the real Tricorder's of Star Trek. Business or pleasure, if you want a PDA, get yourself a calculator.

I agree. I believe the Pocket PC is truly the first real "Personal Computer." Desktop and laptop computers have moved into the realm of (what we used to call) mini-computers, and handhelds have taken over almost all functions of what we used to call personal computers.
