Default Socket Communications continues growth

http://www.businesswire.com/cgi-bin/f_headline.cgi?bw.072202/222030345&ticker=SCKT&ticker=SOK

It's nice to see that our friends at Socket Communications do well. They report a record revenue of $4.6 million, up 62% over the previous year. The press release mentions bluetooth module and connectivity product sales as drivers of growth. The following is a couple of paragraphs from the press release mentioning Pocket PCs. (Highlights are not in original text)

"Compared to the previous quarter, sales growth reflected increased sales of Bluetooth modules and interface chips as customers moved from the design stage to the production stage with products containing these embedded connection products. Growth also resulted from increases in the sale of plug-in CompactFlash connectivity cards for Pocket PCs. These increases were partially offset by moderate declines in bar code scanning, due to rapid growth in previous quarters and the timing of order deliveries, and lower serial card sales. ... Bar code scanning growth as compared to the previous year has resulted from the increasing adoption of Pocket PCs and Windows CE tablets for bar code scanning applications and the increasing availability of these lightweight portable computing platforms. Growth in embedded products and services reflects the maturing of this business as projects move from the design phase into the production phase."

Default !?!?!?!?!?!

OK. This is completely off-topic but just what the Hell is that little Socket symbol supposed to be? You know what I'm talking about: the little squiggle beneath the "o" in Socket. It shows up really large on their products now - just the "o" and the squiggle.

WHAT IS IT?!?!??!

Whew! I feel better.

Default What is up with Socket's logo...??

Hi BwanaJim!!

Regarding your question...

...I have the answer.

The concept around Socket Logo with the "O" with the arc is simple. The logo has a definite "human-like" focus. At Socket, we see the user as the center of their own mobile world and that by providing mobile plug-in products, Socket can help the user manage that "mobile world," be more connected, and hence more productive.

Unofficially, the logo is also referred to as the "Hitchcock-dude." From the days of B&W TV and Sir Alfred Hitchcock's television program where he would walk into the outline of his profile. So in a way, a user's head and shoulder fit the Socket icon...

Regards,

Default Available to Beta folks...

BwanaJim,

Thank you for the compliment. I had actually created some UNOFFICIAL themes for Pocket PC 2002 users who also happen to use Socket products and joined our Early Adopter Beta Program (which happens to be free). 8)

I have tried to attach one of them...

Cheers.
