Cutting Edge Village
My village may not have broadband internet access, but it does have a huge Pocket PC ad at the bus stop.
The introduction of the Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition O2 XDA comes at the same time as the change of name from Telfort to O2, and therefore the XDA is used as an example of how cool O2 is in a big national ad campaign, that happened to hit my village as well. The translation of the text used in the ad: "The world in your pocket. The XDA. Your mobile phone and PC combined. Available from May 27. See www.O2.nl. See what you can do."

The only thing missing now is the GPRS roaming agreements between carriers. This will then make this device truly kick ass.

XDA costs 999 EURO without subscription, while
Sendo Z100 (with MS Smartphone 2002) costs 750 USD (804 EURO).
Don't you people think that XDA will be killer of Sendo Z100?
Actually I see no reason why to buy Sendo Z100 if it does not have
Bluetooth or built-in camera, if XDA is available, and you?

For me, personally, I'd go with a connected PDA before I'd go with a phone with PDA capabilities. And in truth: I like both a lot! But in my office, there are many people who think an iPAQ or an XDA are too big to carry all day. They would love a smaller phone, with PIM functionality much better. To each his own, and to geeks like us, everything.

MO'M: Happily my carrier, Vodafone, is doing GPRS roaming in all Vodafone countries. They are still working on it (I couldn't roam last March in Germany and Italy, but I could in Switzerland), but that is a very cool scenario!

Yes, Marlof, I must admit that having a keyboard, even if it is NOT a full QWERTY keyboard but just numeric one, is a very big plus in usability of the phone !
XDA - 200 gram
Sendo Z100 - 90 gram
... but I have another doubt - whether those phones will be able to
compete with smartphones from Nokia and Symbian, which have
built-in camera and Bluetooth ?
(I have now Nokia 7650 and I know what I am talking about : it is a lot of fun to be able to take pictures on the move... it is also a fine Bluetooth based modem for GPRS for my iPAQ...)

No. Two totally different devices with two different markets.
The PPC2KPE is for data-centric people that need Excel, Word, lots of data composition, etc. But it is bigger, and has a shorter battery life.
The Smartphone 2002 is for people that want a true phone with some data capabilities. No, it doesn't have bluetooth or a camera, but then neither does the XDA. In fact, no Pocket PC's have both bluetooth and an integrated camera.
My gut says the Smartphones will be more successful than the PPC Phone Edition. Time will tell though.

No, I don't think so. They're targeting quite different markets. The xda is too large and complex for users that want a phone first while it appeals to Pocket PC users with data and limited voice needs.
