Default MARGI Presenter-to-Go SD card?

When I was browsing through the Mobile Element web site I noticed they had a news blurb about MARGI releasing an SD card version of their Presenter-to-Go card. Whoa! I wasn't expecting SD/IO like that for at least another year. Looking at the image below, they've moved most of the electronics into a break out box, but it's still uber-cool.

I contacted MARGI and they confirmed they're working on a Pocket PC version - it's a little behind the Palm version, but should be out in a few months. Excellent news for those of you with SD slots!

1 small problem: my iPAQ 3850 does has however SD slot but it is not SD/IO compatible. This is a scam: compaq sold iPAQs 38xx without SDIO!

What can it accomplish with a Palm???

Will it be able to do what a Pocket PC can do now?

Default This is awesome for the Palm community!

I was under NDA for this product and posted the news on Monday morning over at PDAGeek.com. Margi continues to lead the way in mobile presentation solutions and it was a smart move to make a SD format for Palm devices since there are so many Palm users out there. This SD solution allows Palm users to have the same functionality we get with the PC and CF card solutions. Visor owners have had this for over a year now and the rest of the Palm community (other than Sony) now has this ability. Margi may release a MS format also for the Sony devices since they are really leading the way in the Palm OS innovation.

I was just going to email my contact and see if they will provided drivers to use this with Pocket PCs and an SD slot. Since the new e310 only has an SD slot and it is being built into most Pocket PCs now, this may be a good move. Doesn't the new e310 have SD I/O functionality? I understand that the iPaq currently don't, but imagine they will in the future.

While I am generally of the mind that "smaller is usually cooler and better," I'm trying to figure out how people would use this. Do most people store files like PowerPoint presentations in the internal memory of thier devices?

I guess I thought that SD cards would usually be left in place on a Pocket PC and not really used as an often-removed device. Even with devices with both SD and CF slots, won't most people want to load applications and files on the SD card, and use the CF slot for peripherals?

Just wonderin'...

Default If prices were the same maybe

I think if SD and CF were comparibly priced then people may use the SD cards more for storage and applications, but as of now you can get much larger capacity CF cards for the price of smaller SD cards. I use my MMC/SD slot on my Jornada for maps and a few applications, but generally use the CF card for storage and a majority of my applications. I would prefer to use the SD/MMC slot for this, but it is slower and more expensive to get cards of comparible size.

This new Margi SD card was designed for Palm devices who only have SD expansion, not counting the universal connector, so it may not be a wise decision to make it work with the Pocket PC crowd since we already have the PC and CF Type I and II Presenter-to-Go cards.

By the way, I just tried playing Argentum stored on my MMC card and using my Margi Type I CF card out to my 15" LCD and it worked well. This is a great way to demo software and Argentum ROCKS!

i am quite impressed with MARGI products. they sent me one to use when i was speaking at a pocket pc conference and i must say that it lives up to the hype. and now it seems that they aren't content to rest on their laurels, but have moved ahead with a next-generation solution. good for them!

I would take baby steps with Margi products. Tons of compatibility problems!

Interesting - I didn't notice that when I was reviewing their product. Can you give me any specifics?
