Default New iPAQs coming soon?

http://www.ynet.co.il/articles/0,7340,L-1894590,00.html

I can't read Hebrew, so I have no idea how reliable this information is, but this email from Ofer Shmueli was too interesting to pass up. Can anyone confirm this? It makes sense - I can't see NOT having an Xscale iPAQ to compete with the new Toshiba models.

"I have revealed in yedioth ahronot's (israel's biggest daily news paper) web site the facts about the 2 new models that hp will introduce in the end of june. the facts are like that: the new hp company is about to present 2 new pocketpc's. the ipaq 3950 and the ipaq 3970. their [sic] overoll [sic] look will be the same as the 3850 but they will have several changes. they will both run on the xscale 400 mhz processor, they will have improved screen and they will both host an sd slot which will support the sdio standart [sic] (input/output of sd accesories [sic] ). the differences between the two models will be support for bluetooth that the 3970 will enjoy later in august hpipaq will introduce a wireless device with the same specs as ment [sic] to be in the jornada 920 that was cancelled."

I believe there was a very similar article on Brighthand that also spoke about the iPaq 5000 series. It was in the form of a true/false quiz.

Jason, I am fluent in Hebrew, though my technical Hebrew isn't very good (and they're using a Hebrew font that's hard to read!). But yes, he's talking about an all-new Ipaq series with 400 mhz Xscale, SD slots. There's also something about GPS and digital camera support in the SD section, though I'm not sure whether he means devices that'll fit into the SD slot or if he means CF.

He also mentions the Smartphones, but doesn't go into any detail on them.

FYI, the photo is a Jornada 575, not one of these new devices.

Ofer Shmueli, the guy who contacted you, is the author of the article, and it's in one of Israel's big three newspapers, but there's no way to know how accurate it is, alas.

Nor can I speak German, but here is a link to a German (or Austrian?) page that speaks of the same models with the same specs:

http://www.pocket.at/pocketpc/pocketpcs.htm

I also found a page that describes the new Hitachi Mobile Communicator that is now available in Japan. Has impressive specs. Claims to have integrated 802.11b WiFi (Oh no. Here we go again! ). Interesting that it does not run Pocket PC 2002, but some other operating system (proprietary?) based on Windows CE .NET. I sent an e-mail to Hitachi inquiring about this product becoming available in the U.S., but no response yet. Here is the link:

Default True all True

True, all too true. And the 3800 series goes to $500 to replace the 3700. I also see a new low power, lower priced Ipaq to compete with the Toshiba e310.

Well, the German site starts out, "Not much is known about the two new iPAQs, but here are all the 'most likely' facts". Then it lists all the usual stuff, 400Mhz, yada, yada, and the 3970 has Bluetooth. Available July/August 2002.

The Hitachi Notebook Personal Computer offers Bluetooth functionality with the built in Bluetooth module. The Bluetooth module daughter board contains the integrated Bluetooth radio, controller circuitry, USB interface and coaxial cable to the Bluetooth antenna.

Maybe there's a Bluetooth PDA coming up?

Default Brighthand goes even further

Brighthand goes even further

They say the 38xx series will be out of the market by the end of 2002, just a little after the 36xx and 37xx series... :?:
