About a month ago I wrote about my HP Pocket Camera. I was recently contacted by Jim Long of MediaMotion saying they now have HP Pocket Camera drivers for the iPAQ Pocket PC. This will thrill my wife, I am sure, since she's an avid iPAQ Pocket PC user! For $19.98 you not only get the drivers but also the mmVISION iPictures & iVideo software which "allows you to turn your iPAQ 36XX / 37XX / 38XX or Jornada 56X Pocket PC (with the HP Pocket Camera (F1869A) into a powerful digital talking-picture and video camera, to capture ten(s) of thousands of VGA (640x480) pictures and hour(s) of video (with music audio)."
How very appropriate considering the HP-Compaq acquisition!
I installed the software in my jornada 565, and it does not work. I had to a couple of soft resets. It worked only once, maybe would work better in a Ipaq, but I don't think this software is ready to be release.
Since HP is no longer competing with Compaq, and the Pocket Camera is a popular item, I am assuming that HP will release a compatible driver for free download at some point in the near future. So, unless you just have to have a CF camera like right now, I would hold off and wait for the driver. I could be wrong, but it seems like a likely move. Besides, I would rather hold off and buy the Pretec CF camera when it comes out, because it offers 1.3 megapixels of resolution, which is much better than the HP model. 8)
