Default Cell phone dust woes

Visitor Phillip Meyer sent us a photo of his Ericsson T68. It appears as if some dust spilled over from a couple of Pocket PCs! I wrote a little about my take on the dust problems in a recent post. I wrote: "I have seen a couple of devices with severe dust problems, and those should be fixed free of charge. Period. However, take out a magnifying glass, actually spend time looking for specs, and YELL if you find one or two? No sympathies from me. Show me one device with a touch sensitive screen that for ever stays new. My Nokia phone's screen does have scratches and all sorts of other more or less disturbing deficiencies, but I expect that after some time of daily usage."

In my opinion, this Ericsson T68 should fall under the category: "fixed free of charge"! As cell phone makers desparetely cut costs, quality suffers. Both Nokia and Ericsson have recently been hit significantly from bad consumer reports revealing poor quality. Apparently, telecom slow down doesn't just affect kids.

Random trivia: this seems to be a relatively rare problem on the T68. My T68 is just fine ::knock on wood::, and I've only seen occasional reports of this problem on the newsgroups.

My T68 is absolutly fine as well, and it's one of the really early ones as well (bought about two days after they first started appearing in the UK).

Anyone else have such problems?

At first my heart sank as I read the initial thought. Why? I just moved from my Nokia 8260 (TDMA), which had a great deal of dust collected under its screen in only a year, to a T68!!! The thought of such a beautifuly designed phone also having dust problems was a real bubble burster (not to mention that picture of the dusty T68 looks really bad 8O )

Ahh, but then a little relief: Two subsequent posts proclaiming their 1st genereation T68's had *not* suffered from the same dust problem......phew!!

Perhaps Phillip Meyer (who sent in the dusty T68 photo) is an archelogist by trade, and other T68's won't suffer the same fate?

Surprisingly it is not just the T68. I just bought a T60LX and have had it for 2 days and it has more dust under the screen that my iPAQ 3635 ever did in the last year. As a mater of fact my 3635 doesn't have any dust.
