Thanks to Dmitri Popov from PocketWorld for giving me an opportunity to talk about one my pet subjects: Mac synchronization. As frequent readers of Thoughts know I'm not a Mac user, but I do think it is important that Mac synchronization exists. Microsoft didn't do Mac synchronization, so Information Appliance Associates stepped in the ring with PocketMac.
I like to call PocketMac a work in progress. Terence and his people have to work hard to get everything right. They did release the product already, but are still working on ways to improve it and enhance the functionality. With the standard edition you can sync a My Documents folder, you can convert between Mac files and Pocket Excel, Pocket Word, Pocket Notes and PC-style text files, and install software using standard Pocket PC file distribution formats. The professional edition should give you all the standard version does, and synchronization of Contacts, Calendar, etc. from Entourage (9/X) or Exchange Server 2000 with your Pocket PC. Right now, only the standard version is available, both for OS 9 and OS X.
This is the version PocketWorld reviews. Their conclusion: "PocketMac deserves huge credit for developing an application which bridges Macs and Pocket PCs. It�s easy to use, and acts more or less transparently. Version 1.1 does have some teething troubles such as slow connection speed and unstable performance, and hopefully they will be sorted out in upcoming releases. Our only grip is the lack of a demo version. $49.95 for a regular version is not exactly a bargain (at least not in the Pocket PC world), and it would be fair to offer users a chance to try the application before they buy it."
Hmmm... time for that iMac?

The converting step, Office-files from a PC/Mac to a PPC, is not necessary if you use ClearVue from WestTek on your PPC/HPC.

With this great app you can view the native Office files, without conversion and loss of inormation.
The data-synchronization (PIM) is the feature I need.
File-copy can be done with Wi-Fi (guess), or an external card-reader connected to the Mac.

Hi,
Technically, no conversion is needed for Office:Mac documents to be viewed, edited, etc. on a Pocket PC. However, conversion is most definitely required to view PocketWord, PocketExcel and Notes files on a Mac.
That's the kind of conversion that PocketMac offers 
Just thought I'd jump in & clarify.
