Default New consumer Toshiba Pocket PC in Q2 2002

http://www.businesswire.com/cgi-bin/f_headline.cgi?bw.021202/220430289

Toshiba announced today that it will make available a new Pocket PC, built around the new 400 MHz Intel PXA250 XScale processor. Apparently, their plans are to have them available already in Q2 2002.

The new Toshiba Pocket PC is said to have "integrated wireless functionality and dual expansion slots". An interesting remark at the end of the article is: "Toshiba also plans to offer a PDA solution targeted to the consumer marketplace in Q'2, 2002." Up until now, Toshiba has stayed away from the retail channel. This remark indicates clearly that we will most likely see them in stores this summer/fall.

All I have to say is sweeeeeeeeet.

Ok, well that isn't all, but if Toshiba can really keep this device in the same form factor, with XScale, with wireless, keeping the dual slots, and have it out to consumers in Q2 like they are saying they will, that will be really great. I think that would be saying a lot about Toshiba as a company if they can really accomplish all that.

Ohhhh baby! 8)

This is the unit that should have the Sierra Wireless CDMA2000 chipset in it...if Toshiba adds a removable battery, or a bigger one (they would have to), I'm all over this...

This looks like it will be a very cool device. May have to buy a few new devices in the next few months!

Nice to see PPC manufacturers not waiting for Talisker before taking the XScale plunge. Also can't wait for other manufacturers' XScale announcements to start rolling in...

I guess waiting 'till March for NEC's delayed MobilePro P300 doesn't make much sense anymore...

I agree with st63z. Didn't budge from my E-125, because I'm waiting for this. But I'll be looking for Casio to come out with it's version--hopefully with the replaceable battery and USB host. :!:
