Widescreen Wallpaper: Are Graphic Designers Sleeping?
Here's a digital pet peeve of mine: when graphic designers, usually for movies, make wallpaper and only include 4:3 resolutions such as 800 x 600, 1280 x 1024, etc. Sure, 1600 x 1200 is great for a big 20" LCD monitor, but not a wide-angle 16:10 aspect ratio monitor. I saw a TV commercial for the movie "300" and it looked awesome. I checked out the size, saw that they were offering wallpaper for download, and eagerly clicked on the link - only to find that they were offering no wide-screen wallpaper options.
Come on graphic designers of the world, get with it! Wide-screen monitors are extremely popular, and in the laptop world especially, it's very difficult to even find consumer models that have 4:3 screens. It's easy for Windows to scale an image down, so designers should release 1600 x 1200 and 1920 x 1200 (or perhaps 2560 x 1600) and be done with it. If you happen to know anyone that does wallpaper for movies, pass this message along please. ;-)
(Here's my edited 16:10 version of one wallpaper).
