Calling all Movie Trivia buffs
This came up during dinner conversation today and it's one of those things that will keep me up at night.
Does anyone know what the first movie to have two sequels was? That is, the first movie trilogy? If there was more than three, that's fine, but what was the first to get to the third installment?
I'm relying on the collective wisdom here to get some sleep tonight.
TIA.

This isn't definitive, since I was just guessing, but imdb.com lists Rocky III with a 1982 release and Return of the Jedi with 1983. Others I could think of and checked were all later (Star Trek, Godfather, Rambo).

Samurai trilogy, starring Mifune Toshiro, 1954 to 1956, is the earliest trilogy I know of.
