Default Latest Flash Memory News Round-Up

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0404/04041201kingston1gbcf.asp

Kingston Technology has recently announced the availability of a 1 GB CF Elite Pro card featuring the latest in high-density flash components. "Kingston's newest 1 GB CompactFlash Elite Pro provides a low, price per megabyte solution of reliable, high-speed media. The Elite Pro provides a write speed of up to 5.2 MB per second and a read speed of up to 6.1 MB per second." This Type I card will have a price tag of around $349.00.

Also, separately, Toshiba and Sandisk have announced that they have jointly developed a 4Gb flash memory chip (512MB) and are actually working towards doubling that by placing two of the 4Gb chips into one module to create an 8Gb (1GB) flash chip. "For users this means that devices employing flash memory can either be made smaller while carrying the same amount of memory or kept the same size with the internal memory capacity increasing." The devices affected by this technology would be digital still cameras, cellular telephones, MP3 players, and memory cards such as SD (Secure Digital) or Memory Stick.

Finally, it appears that Buy.com is currently selling a Sandisk 1GB SD card for a mere $266. Wow, I can hear the stampede already .
