The Concert Series Continues, Also First Zune2 Special Edition
Hip hop legend Bun B (of UGK) and elite producer Swizz Beats teamed up to a play a free show at the War Room last Friday night here in Seattle. The by-RSVP-only event is the first of several, at these locations - stay tuned for details: Huf, San Francisco - January; Reed Space, NYC - February; Alfreds, Chicago - March. Read an interview with Bun B and Swizz here. We're also partnering with Goods to release a limited edition (only 10 will be sold) Zune.
Head on over to ZuneInsider for photos, or BlogsIsWatching for videos (via GenerationZune and Zune-Online) including an interview between AllHipHop.com's DJ B-Mello and the show's two stars and several showcasing what looked like a fun show.
One thing that constantly impresses me about the Zune-artist relationship is that it doesn't come off as feeling forced. Apple has genuine fans and musicians that talk their products up at any opportunity. Microsoft tends to be the exact opposite, and, at least in the computer world, is seen as a gigantic megaconglomorate. Either Microsoft is paying these artists a huge sum of money for their compliance, or it's genuinely generating goodwill. We've already seen it happening with the Xbox, is Zune next?
About the devices: I was wondering when the special editions (non-Originals) would show up, but I wasn't expecting them to look so...tacky. Stefan at IHaveAZune.com (nee IWAPZ) thinks the back looks too much like a sticker. Though he later found that it's a screen-printing like the last gen, I still don't think it fits as nicely with the rest of the design. It also makes me wonder how they screen-print so well on the metal backing.
