Default Smartphones and Windows Vista Beta 2 CPP

As I'm sure most of you know, the second beta of Windows Vista went public on Wednesday (I think.)

I was really excited to get it set up and find everything to be working properly (still have to test some games) but the one problem I am having is that I can't get my Smartphone (an Audiovox SMT5600) to sync with anything other than Windows Media Player.

It detects the phone, installs the drivers, opens the "Mobile" center, and even lets me set up music synching an explore the device. But no where is there an option to sync the device with Outlook, or Outlook Express, or Windows Mail, or Windows Calendar. Which is really annoying.

I haven't tried to install Active Sync but I read in many places it won't work. I'm under the impression that support for synching of this nature is built into Vista, but not working or enabled yet.

That said, has anyone had any luck in synching their smartphone (contacts, calendar, e-mail etc.) with Vista Beta 2?

If so, how?

If it's just an unfinished feature, is there a band-aid solution in the mean time?
