"World leading broadcast solution provider SRN today announced that its SERVO Datacasting platform will support Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5.0 on enhanced Smartphones and Pocket PC devices built-in with DAB/DMB and DVB tuning functionalities. The beta release of SRNs mobile datacasting platform is scheduled October first 2005."
Digital audio and multimedia broadcasting is coming to a Windows Mobile device near you. I've often wondered why Smartphones don't have a FM tuner in them. I can't imagine it would take up very much space. Oh well, DAB would be much better in a Smartphone. The interesting thing I noticed on this press release, is the line about devices with built-in tuning functionalities. We haven't heard anything about any devices have a DAB or DMB tuner built-in to them. If they are releasing the beta version of this on October 1st, then I would expect to see some yet-to-be-announced hardware released around then too.
