"The total number of mobile phone subscribers has cruised north of 1.8 billion according to research released today by Informa Telecoms & Media. According to the report, the number will swell to 2.14 billion by the end of 2005. Previous estimates from Q1 also pointed to passing the 2 billion mark this year."

Ever notice that everyone and their brother seems to have a cellphone now? Every where you go, there is someone talking on a cellphone. And it's no wonder - with 1.8 billion people owning cellphones! I guess owning a cellphone is no longer a just a status thing.
