Default miniSD card power drain

I just installed a 256MB PQI miniSD card for my mpx220. I am now getting terrible batter life. I am not sure if it is the miniSD card which is the problem or some application which keeps consuming CPU cycles (power). I am not using the miniSD card - except to store programs and music, but I have not been using the phone anymore now then before the miniSD card.

I will remove the miniSD card for a day to see if I notice any change.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Are there power saving settings I should check on the phone. For instance I keep my BlueTooth off except when I am using it.
