Default Nokia To Work With Ford and Nissan

http://www.dmeurope.com/default.asp?ArticleID=4214

"Finnish mobile handset maker Nokia and Japanese car manufacturer Nissan have jointly developed an integrated vehicle communications solution for the Nissan Primera. Integrated into the central console, the new system offers hands-free operation using the vehicle's N-FORM control system with colour display. It features a base plate onto which many mobile holders can be mounted, making it compatible with mobile phones from different manufacturers. The hands-free system is now available in the Nissan Primera. ...Nokia and US vehicle manufacturer Ford have also launched a solution that was developed especially for Ford vehicles. The Nokia hands-free system with voice activation and Bluetooth connectivity and can be used with mobile phones from different manufacturers. The system supports two connection options: Bluetooth connectivity and cable connection in conjunction with a mobile holder."

When I first read about this, I was concerned that people would be locked into Nokia phones, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Which is nice to hear. The article mentions that Ford will be loading this into the Focus and the Focus C-Max, to start with, and are expected to become available in the 4th Quarter of 2004. That means shortly, folks! Who wants to buy one and test the compatibility with Windows Mobile for us?
