At first glance the concept might seem to have limited application, with the usual suspects of emergency services, construction industry and security being the ones most people think of. However the universal nature of the mobile phone, coupled with the explosive growth of instant messaging, provide a good enough reason to think again.

Push to talk at its simplest is fast way to talk directly to one or more recipients. One person pushes a button and can talk, the others can only listen. When the button is released, another can press theirs and be the one to talk. When multiple people are the same call, it can be a very efficient way to share information. Adding this functionality to mobile phones is an interesting proposition..."

An interesting article about how PTT will be a revenue generator for the carriers, and how PTT will impact the market. Anyone out there using PTT on a regular basis? What are the scenarios you find it most useful in? I have to admit that I've never owned a phone, or been on a network, that offers that feature. What am I missing?
