Default Altek Releasing 14-Megapixel Android Phone

"A new king of the smart phone jungle is sharpening its claws for a European debut. Beginning first quarter 2011, imaging technology leader Altek roars onto the continent with Leo, the world's first Android-enabled 3.5G smart phone to feature an HD-capable 14-megapixel camera. The company is currently seeking channel partners in the region as it prepares to bring Leo to market."

A high quality camera phone with built-in GPS to allow geotagging images, 3.2" WVGA screen capable of multi-touch input, along with 720P video.  Sounds like a great combination, if this were released in the US I would definitely make the switch.

Why on earth did they make it a 480x800 screen if it's only 3.2"?!?!? I think it will be a pain to use this with a lot of standard apps because the dpi is too high for a screen you're using your finger on. I know, the iPhone 4 is about 40 dpi higher. That's just apple being apple and you don't want me to go there.

I think 480x800 resolution is great on Android phones but if the dpi is too high buttons get too close together and it can be hard to use some apps. I think the Dinc, and especially the Droid 2 (800 vs 854) are bad enough.

It's bad for manufacturers to do this. Developers need some least common denominator to write their apps for and know that people will be able to use them easily. I thought I heard something about 3.5" or 3.7" for Android but I guess not. I feel for people with devices that have a dpi too high because I did too. I went from 200dpi to 285dpi and I was not able to use some applications the same way.

I'm sure it will be a great camera and the screen with be very nice for viewing photos but I'm afraid there will be apps just are just hard to use on that screen.

Then again, what size is the average finger? Still, I just think they missed the importance of the DPI being a *good* size.
