FWIW, when I visited my local Verizon store yesterday to upgrade my phone, the manager told me that anybody with an unlimited plan can KEEP it even if they DO go to a tiered program. I was a little hesitant, but since my upgrade required a data plan, I made him put it in writing on my contract renewal. I don't know how legally enforceable that really is, but I felt a little better signing up for the $29 unlimited plan at least with some form of documentation about what I was promised.
