Default Amplifying sound through compuer and computer speakers

Does anyone know of any software that will allow my computer and speakers to act as amplifiers? It's so if I play guitar for a couple friends in my dorm room I can be a bit louder and I can mix the sounds so it sounds better. I have the Klipsch ultra 5.1 speakers which pump out 500 watts, so I know I have enough power, but I just need the means.

And yes, I have an amplifier, but bringing a whole electric guitar setup to college is a bit overkill, considering I don't play with a band or anything here. I just want to pump up my acoustic.

any help is appreciated, thanks!

Any sound card has a line-in jack. If you can find an adapter that converts you - what is it 8mm? - guitar jack to a weeny little 3 mm PC jack size you could try that. Don't expect anything too good though ...

Also, any quality sound card has beefier inputs available.

Thanks for the replies! After a good searching through your links I came across a program called GuitarFX. It's a simple program that allows for different effects and simply amplies the line in to the line out, so it's perfect.
