This months random lurker post
If I where a Sega executive, I would really compel MS to release a version of the PMC (Portable Media Centers - aka mini MCE) that allowed gaming (heck= the controls are already similar to gameboy) Sega has a excellent brand perception already, and the PMC I predict will have an excellent following even without gaming. But I always want more, and this would be an ideal combination.
The DRM subscription model introduced with Janus (http://www.technewsworld.com/story/33626.html) would allow online would allow online purchasing or even renting of games (with Napster 2.0 meets Gamefly flavor).
Also, if manufacturers dont include some high mega pixel camera device in thisIll be very disappointed. Almost all research shows cameraphones that support picturesand now videos, are a hugely popularbut disappoint users due to there bad image quality and no easy way to archive or sync the pictures onto your Home PC. In addition, high quality camera attached to a portable media device is would easily create synergy as they share many of the same components (LCD, Storage, UI, Controls).
Id like to see Cellphone/Internet linked in there, but I dont think the technology is there yet for a 2004 launch. Data is still slow and expensiveand although Verizon recently announced 2.4mbs burst / 300kbs substained) coverage in my new residence of San Diego, I dont believe it will happen anytime soon nationwide. In my opinion, by the 2005/2006 when broadband wireless is everywhere, are super hip Windows Mobile Longhorn phones will do everything (Gaming, Video, TV, Music, Internet, Wireless Headset, Remote X10 Control of environment, and possibly Secure RFID proximity purchasing).
