Default RE: Pantech Duo and Ringtones

Hi ...

There are 2 options for you!

1. If you are not tech savvy and/or are afraid or not used to tinkering with things on the computer, you can simply download ringtones that are less than 280KB. When you do, they must be in the "My Ringtones" folder on your phone (under my documents) or you must make a "My Ringtones" (without the quotes) folder on your micro sd card.

2. If you don't mind tinkering, then you can go here

...there is a post at the bottom that explains downloading Mobile Registry Editor and the change you have to make.

In order for this to work, you must download the .net framework 1.1 from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Once you have that installed...plug in your phone via the USB cable to the computer and make sure it is connected to active sync. Go to the folder you extracted the Mobile Registry Editor to and run the .exe file.

From there, follow the instructions to change the file size. Once you do that and exit the program, you will see your mp3's that are in the ringtones folders as options in the sound settings screen through the phone.

I've copied the original post from Yahoo! Answers below, in case the link above doesn't work:

I've followed the below instructions for my AT&T Duo and it worked. The only problem I ran into was an access denied message when I tried to run MRE the first time. That is when I did some looking and found the .NET Framework 1.1 requirement. I downloaded and installed that, then ran MRE again and it worked right away.

Good Luck!

Kerry

By default the ringtone has to be under 280kb. Use a program called Audacity to shrink the MP3 Files. These MP3 files can be in two locations:
My Ringtones (On the Phone's Memory)
My Ringtones (On the SD Card, make a folder called My Ringtones)

An easy "hack" is to change the size limit in the registry.
1. Download Mobile Registry Editor
(From sources below)
2. Sync your phone, run the exe file, make your way to Current_User, Control Panel, click on Sounds .. change filesizelimit to 999999999 (nine 9's)
hit ok, close program, now the mp3 files can be put either on phones my ringtones folder or on sd card's my ringtone folder.

This was found from the Cingular Forum below. The forum says you have to add the name of the Mp3 file also - but it worked without that extra step.
