Yeah, that's it. If there were, and it ever came to light, you'd see government intervention (like you did with PC RAM manufacturers).

More silly speculation. I have a 2 GB MiniSD card in my Q (and I've heard of people using 4 GB cards). I also have an 8 GB CF card in my iPAQ hx2795 Pocket PC. So the OS is quite capable of handling large memory sizes.

Just because they don't put large amounts of Flash in doesn't mean they're ignorant. How much does a 4 GB iPhone cost? How about an 8 GB iPhone?
I just did a PriceGrabber search on all forms of 8 GB Flash. The cheapest price there was $60. Maybe OEMs don't want to have to raise their prices that much. Many people are already asking why you would buy a PDA/Smartphone when you can get a decent laptop for the same price. (You don't need to answer that -- I already know the reasons. )
