I think both of you guys need to play with your phone some more.
This couldn't get any simpler on the Cingular 3125...
Comm Manager:
Open Phone
Press center of Circle.
Comm Manager will open.....
Volume Control:
On left side of cover there is a rocker switch.
Press UP for louder, down for lower.
DUH...
