Are you a Zune owner annoyed at the lack of podcast support? Well, now there's Juice for the people who need the 'casts and gotta have the 'casts. Even better, it's licensed under the GPL (always a good thing to see). Anyone use Juice and want to give us the pulp?

So does Juice automatically sync podcasts into the Zune, after it downloads them?
If so, how do you do it? I've been playing around with the options quite a bit but i dont see any " cross-platform " related options ..

Juce will not sync to the Zune directly but here is what I have done to get my podcasts to my Zune.
I created a folder called Podcasts and then I have all my casts downloaded into this folder using Juice. I then added this folder to my monitored folders is Zune and now whenevr I sync my device they all get moved over automatically.
Works well enough for me.

I use Juice and have been for quite a while. Juice sets up a My Received Podcasts folder in your My Documents folder.

All you have to do is set the Zune software to monitor the My Received Podcasts folder. It will automatically pull over the podcasts to your library which will then automatically sync to the Zune.
I use Podcast Alley to subscribe to my favorite podcasts. Just select subscribe to a podcast that you would be interested in, copy the URL feed, paste in Juice's Add URL feature and it downloads all available episodes. It's very quick, and will also do video podcasts. That's what cross-platform means. The Zune software will convert the video if it's in a form that Zune recognizes. However, it sometimes takes a while to do this, in which case I recommend use of video conversion software to convert to a format Zune recognizes.

I suppose I should qualify that by saying you can do all of your podcast handling from within Juice. You'll still need the Zune Software to sync them to your device.

I can vouch for the syncing from Juice... it doesn't handle the Zune any more than any other podcast client does (which makes Damien's post somewhat misleading). Just let your Zune software monitor the folder and it'll take care of it. In the Zune software, I almost always use the Library - Recently Added to see what's been downloaded and quickly transfer it to my Zune.
I've been using Juice since version 0.99 (when it wasn't called Juice). It's by far the most reliable and controllable podcasting client I've used. It keeps original file names, downloads any kind of files in the stream (so it'll handle video, text or anything else the podcast authors toss in) and organizes each feed into it's own folder within the "My Recieved Podcasts" folder that it uses. It also doesn't choke if something moves the files (like Media Player's automatic file organization stuff).
The only issue I've ever had with it is that it will occasionally "hang" on a download. Juice is still usable when this happens, it just keeps a thread marked as "downloading" and it's not really doing anything, or it'll just keep retrying one thread over and over. Just restart it and all is well. For me, this happens maybe twice a month. To give you some idea of how robust it is, I'm running Juice in the background 24/7 and getting maybe 200 downloads a week from it.
It's definately better than anything else I've tried.

I had been using it with great success. I just modified the location it saved it's podcasts to a directory I was already monitoring with my Zune and everything worked like a champ. However, I had to uninstall it as it appears it's not compatible with Vista. The install works fine but as soon as I start it up I see the Juice logo and then a pop-up telling me there were errors and to check the log. So I'm looking at other options and hoping there will be an update to support Vista.

I've been using Juice for a while. The only challenge I have is not really Juice's fault. One of my subscriptions names their program "Name of program" - Date. But, since it's topical, I'd rather it use the "title" tag from the XML feed. I've tried various things, including the "genre fix" to tag it as a podcast. I'm just not tag-savvy enough to make it do that. So, for that feed, and a couple more, I use itunes. It has an option to "convert id3 tags" which fixes it the way I like it.
That said, it's really not Juice's fault, but I wish there were a way for it to allow me to selectively use that "title" tag used in the XML feed rather than the Title embedded in the MP3.

Good call, Bill, thanks. Anyone who's just upgraded or is thinking about it in the near future (that's me) might want to hold off for now. I guess that's something we'll (I'll) have to start thinking about more.

I'm a bit ashamed to say this, but I'm still using iTunes to manage my podcasts. Since I'd been using an iPod for three years and had iTunes all set up with all of my podcasts, I'll continue to use it. All I have to do is start iTunes once a day, let it grab all of the latest podcasts, then close it and sync my Zune.
iTunes puts the podcasts into a folder that Zune is monitoring, so it always picks them up. This will work until Zune gets podcasting built in. What I'm missing is the way iTunes would autmatically "groom" podcasts off of my iPod (for example, keep only the 5 most recent episodes). With Zune, I have to do that manually or else it will eventually fill up.
C'mon MSFT... let's get podcasting support built into the Zune software!!!
