Need something to one up your rapidly aging device? How about a G2? TmoNews received this "screen shot" which clearly shows the on and off contract pricing for the highly anticipated T-mobile G2. At $499.99 off contract and a mere $199.99 for those willing to renew their vows, this device sets itself up to be very competitive in the overall smartphone market. I was wondering about the Scorpion CPU...It looks like at the same clock speed it runs faster than an A8 (like the Samsung Hummingbird in the Galaxy S phones or the A4 in the iPhone 4) but with half the power consumption!!! Very cool! I don't know if an 800Mhz Scorpion is as fast as a 1GHz hummingbird but it sounds promising. If the speed is similar but lasts a lot longer I think it will be popular.

I haven't seen all the specs of the G2. How much built in storage does it have? What size and resolution are the screen? Does it still have a slide out keyboard?

I've not seen anything about the memory yet but I have seen reports of the standard 800×480, 3.7 inch screen.

It most definitely has a keyboard with a very interesting opening mechanism. Like the original G1 it kinda flips out but this time it goes up and down instead of out to the side. There is a shot of it mid-opening here (http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/20/t-mobile-g2-again-this-time-with-less-mr-blurrycam/).

Edit: of course, now they say that the slider was just pulled apart. So maybe it just slides normally and some one broke this one. :)

I got to check out this handset a few weeks ago, when our HTC rep was in store (I work for T-Mobile).

Screen size is definitely 3.7 inch, resolution is 800 x 480, the way the slider raises up while opening is normal an feels very cool and solid in operation. Memory is 512 RAM and 512 ROM. I don't remember %100 on the ROM, I was more interested in RAM and not worried about storage since 2.2 allows apps to be stored on the SD card.

Processor CPU/GPU is more powerful than the current Snapdragon but not quite as powerful as the 1Ghz Hummingbird in the Galaxy S (Vibrant). The performance is noticeable quicker than the Vibrant most likely due to the combination of the performance boosts from 2.2 and also from running a Vanilla Android build. Hopefully clocking the processor at 800Mhz will yield better battery life than the Vibrant, and if it doesn't there is always rooting and overclocking to 1Ghz, since that should be relatively safe since it is within the processor's design specs.

In hand the G2 feels very much like a Nexus one with a slide out keyboard. It feels like the best built hardware available from T-Mobile, build quality feels about the same as the Nexus one or HD2.
