View Full Version : LED LCD TVs and precision dimming

Samsung has some models with "precision dimming" via edge LEDs; these are thinner and less expensive than full-array LED models. I've been hoping to see a UN55C6800, but apparently they've not been able to ship that model yet. For some $200 less, the UN55C6500 is about the same but without the precision dimming.

Has anyone compared models with precision dimming vs. similar ones without? Does it really help with the dark levels, and is it worth waiting for?

Presumably this feature dims regions rather than individual pixels, but I haven't been able to confirm that.

Our local big box store had an 8000 which seems to have the same feature, but I was unable to do a side-by-side comparision since they had if off in a area by itself.

There are some LGs and other brands with local dimming, but these tend to be around 4 to 4.5 inches thick. The Samsung series 6 at 1.1" would be a better fit for my situation. (And, sure, if I really want thin, why not the 9000 at 0.3" at only $7000!)
