When it comes to storage, Solid State Drives (SSDs) are getting all the attention these days--and it's no wonder, considering the speed, durability, low-power, and silent-running attributes of current solid state drives. But SSDs are also very expensive and offer relatively low-capacities when compared to traditional HDDs. The vast majority of systems that use some sort of fixed drive for storage--be they desktops, workstations, or servers--still use HDDs. And when it comes to maximum storage capacity in a 3.5-inch form factor, you simply can't get any higher these days than a 2TB HDD."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/wpt/auto/1272272711.usr11334.jpg" style="border: #d2d2bb 1px solid;" /></p><p>This review tests a range of 2TB drives, putting them through their paces to determine which is the best. No suprise then that the fastest drives come out on top for performance while also being&nbsp;the most expensive.&nbsp; It really does depend what you need from a drive, do you require fast read and writes or are you happy using one of the green drives which are slower?&nbsp; Whatever your needs, this review should help you determine the differences in speed at a price point you are willing to pay.</p>

Largest drive we have in house is a 750GB External, used for back-up. OTOH, we've found HD space disappearing with greater speed now that we have multiple digital cameras, and are also keeping more music files on our systems.

And, of course, that says nothing about VIDEO files which take up gobs of room.

Still, am concerned about the idea of One Large Drive as a back up: too many eggs in one basket.

We are still getting by with multiple drives, across several systems (am in process of setting a new system up now) - but am more and more mulling over the idea of contracting for a cloud-based back up app....
