What I like about this style of case is using it to offload things you might normally carry in your carry-on laptop bag when traveling. If you don't think you'll be using an item while en route to your destination, you might as well pack it in your suitcase and lighten your shoulder-load (unless it's fragile and/or extremely expensive of course).
