View Full Version : Should I Buy an iPhone Now, or Wait?

I've reached the breaking point with Windows Mobile, and put away the money I need to buy an iPhone. Some iPhone owners I know claim that Apple is going to be coming out with new models soon and tell me to wait for WWDC in June. Of course, even if Apple announces new iPhone hardware, that doesn't mean it will go on sale in June. It could be 6 months or more until it's available.
Even if new iPhone hardware becomes available, the current 3G is pretty darn good.
Would I be all right if I just bought a 16GB 3G iPhone now, or wait for something new?

Last year they announced the 3G in early June and it was available in the second week of July.
While I'm not saying that this guarantees anything, if you can wait it out, I would. That's only two more months of waiting to see if Apple announces anything at WWDC.

Thanks. I've just had it with rebooting my Epix 5 or more times a day. If something new comes out, I'm wondering how much better it will be than the 3G. I'm hearing better camera (not a big deal) faster processor, and faster internet connection. Possibly there will be more memory on the new ones. The 3.0 update will be useful. I just wonder if they'll really be that much better to make waiting 2 months worth it.

Kind of curious whats the deal with your Epix. I have tons of bizarre applications on mine, a typical cause for WM instability, and don't have to reboot very often. I'd reset your Epix to factory fresh, and reload only those apps that you absolutely have to have to function. See how that goes while waiting for the new iPhones. See, not trying to talk you out of it, just giving you an option that might ease your wait a bit. If you are already resigned to not having the Epix, you shouldn't miss the stuff you've added/customized too much. The Epix has been one of my favorite WM devices in some time, and while I enjoy playing with my wife's iPhone, I wouldn't trade for it.

I actually did that myself last December when I was having problems with my WM phone just powering down randomly and things have been much better since.
I'm still getting an iPhone when my contract is up, though.

I ended up getting the iPhone 3G. That was my 3rd Epix (original plus 2 warranty replacements) and I've only had it for 2 weeks. It was about as fresh an install as you can get. I'm starting to wonder if some of my problems were AT&T related. I notice the iPhone goes into no service a lot at work. It could be the same signal, but the iPhone's strength meter is a lot more honest.
My wife's BlackJack II died the day I got my iPhone, so I put her SIM in the Epix to get her by until her warranty replacement comes.
I loved the feature that the Epix came with. The optical mouse is awesome. I got tired of Windows Mobile's instability.
