View Full Version : What Was Under Your Tree Yesterday?

So what gifts did yesterday bring? It doesn't even have to be Pocket PC related, or &lt;gasp> technology related! Of course, I know not everyone celebrates Christmas, so share the festivities and gifts (mostly gifts!) you enjoyed on your particular holiday. Or did you give someone else a particularly special gift? Stories welcome!<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20031225-santa.gif" />

I got a couple computer/electronic related presents:

- Pandigital 7" Digital Picture Frame
- Visual Basic 6.0 Deluxe Learning Edition

It's my mom's 50th b-day this year so my dad bought her a car (I helped shop for it). My dad snuck and swapped out her old car for the new car while she was in church, and when she walked out there was the new one with a bow on the hood.

I had a wonderful Christmas. Santa was very good to me this year.

Samsung 40" Flat Panel LCD HDTV
Panasonic HDMIA DVD Player with Surround Sound Stereo System
HealthoMeter Heated Massaging Chair
Complete DVD Family Guy Series

A lot of other personal gifts, but those were the biggies.

I got cards for donations to local charities, and others got Oxfam gifts from me. My family finally went along with my wish that we not respond to external pressure to overspend, but instead focus on being with each other and try to make things a little better for someone else.

Of course we all cheated, but the gifts we bought were little tokens.

I feel better about the holiday this year than I have in a long time.

Samsung 42" Plasma
New headlights for Jetta
New parts to upgrade my MCE with
EVGA Ge-Force 7900GTX
Motorola 27Km range walkie talkies
Xbox HD DVD drive
Lots of chocolate
A shirt and a tie
Starbucks gift cards

For my family...I got my mom crystals decorations. My mom grew out of Beanie Babies and absolutely love those tiny crystal creatures now. For my dad, I got a warning not to buy him anything lol. My dad'd rather have me save money than buy him stuff. I got him his favorite TV animal documentary series on DVD though. I just put them on the DVD shelf as if they had already been there :) For my dog, I got him lots of treats that's enough to last about 3 months also some squeaky toys. 3am this morning I was woken up by his toy's squeakiness as he was playing with one in his tent in my room. For my brother and sister, it was a mutual agreement that we don't spend on each other but a Christmas card. Still, they might just find some unopened DVDs on the shelf. For my 4-year-old nephew, I got him a robot dino toy. He absolutely loves it and as soon as he opened it, he forgot who I was. He looked at me trying to say "Thank you &lt;blank>......" LOL For my goddaughter, I got her an iPod and accessories which I succeeded in fooling her into thinking she wasn't getting one. I swear I've never seen her that surprised when she unwrapped the lasso ties and the tens of layers of paper I had skillfully duct taped her presents with haha.. it was fun. At work, we were able to raise more than $8000 for a family in adopt-a-family this Christmas. Now that was cool.

We were supposed to be having a light Xmas this year, not a lot of gifts. So what did we do? Give each other one expensive gift each! But my expensive item was a leather coat, no electronics this year (unless you count the Chronicles of Narnia DVD).

That's okay... my gifts to myself were extending my wireless plan and getting a free RAZR phone... and a battery back-up for my Toshiba PPC, to extend my remote e-book reading time.

I asked for an Xbox 360 Premium, a couple of cheap PDA techs items, and a cheap Microsoft or Logitech optical usb mouse. I received... a nice electric razor, a thermos, ANOTHER plastic toolbox, and some clothes that I will probably never wear. I really wanted that 360...

Sigh*

Also, my dad backed into the door of my Echo, this morning our fish tank heater fried all of my fish, and my parents ordered that I dismantle my wireless network, because it was being overused and abused by my siblings. Now I'm stuck using a single computer, shared with everyone, in the livingroom. I have about 150 dollars worth of wifi cards and wireless equipment sitting on my desk. Help!

Not such a wonderful christmas for me.

Why don't you hook up your wifi system again and just enable the encryption. Don't tell your siblings the code and you should be back up and running without having to share a single source.

...a Wolf statue to add to my collection.

Collection of...

Wolf statues?
Things that resemble wolves?
Statues?

I like to collect anything that my partner doesn't make me throw out after a time but unfortunately, that means that I can't really collect anything.

My Christmas was dominated by cookware with a couple of books, shirts and DVDs thrown in.

Oh yeah... the "it's better that you are all equally miserable than to have some of you happier than others" school of parenting. I think that my folks did that too. I'd like to think that I turned out better for it. Maybe that is why I don't go home for Christmas 0X

That is ridiculous!!! 8O
Your Parents need to learn about individual responsibility and punish those who abuse it. By preventing you from having the WiFi network they are punishing you too for the mis-deeds of your sibblings - how can that be classed as fair!
The previous suggestion of encrypting the network and not giving your sibblings the code is an excellent way to force the issue. Each time they start abusing the system, the code gets changed and they have to earn the right to be given the new code - the use of punishment and reward would work. I have done it myself in the past to my own sons, who are now 29 and 24! If I were you I'd discuss this with your parents again!

I got to take the dog for a nice walk in the untouched snow. And some other stuff: some of it nice, some it useful, some of it not much of either. But I liked that first thing best.

Oh, I did buy myself a car a couple of weeks ago ;-) I'd been wanting a Saab for 20 years (to the year AND month), and I finally got one. It kinda feels like going back in time and making out with that person you had a major crush on back in school....

You're kidding, right? It's actually a decent package, even more so with the latest firmware and software updates.

And no, I'm not one-sided in my assessment (I have an iPod and a Zune). ;)

I got a Sony PSP, however due to a dyslexic at Amazon, it hasn't arrived yet :(

My in-laws gave my wife and I a very nice globe to put in our gameroom / office / study / everything room. I just unwrapped it while the Misses is working this morning, so when she arrives home, she'll be able to enjoy looking at it.

for about 3 seconds...

before she goes into a mad cleaning frenzy (I'm in one myself as well). Our annual New Years party is fast approaching, and the house needs to get itself into shape!

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, and a prosperous 2007 for everyone!

Well, my wife is completely non-geek and she's so practicle, she'd reuse ice cubes if she could.

So, for myself, I finished installing the 75 in diagonal projection system in our master bedroom. Got a Marantz SR5001 and three nice elan directional ceiling mounted speakers, a nice Sub, and the trimmings. Shouls be up by the weekend!

Thats fantastic!!

For this year I just got money from my family. I just bought a MacBook Pro for college next year and they all gave me money towards it.

For my mum I got the Fawlty Towers series on DVD, and for my dad I got the 7th season of The West Wing on DVD. They were both very happy :D

Well, my wife is completely non-geek and she's so practical, she'd reuse ice cubes if she could.

I can't think what they're called, but I KNOW I've seen where someone makes these little ice-cube sized plastic things that are filled with some kind of liquid or gel or something, that you freeze, put in your drinks, then put back in the freezer... :google: it, ya might find 'em...

Anyway, I didn't really get any tech-related presents this year (except what I bought for myself...lol), but I got a back massager (ok, it takes batteries, I guess that makes it 'tech'...), that is small enough that you really need someone else to hold it for you. :mecry: Some cash ($50! ) and Jeff Foxworthy's "Redneck Dictionary II" :rotfl:
Oh yeah! I DID get something tech-related, kinda...a CompUSA gift card!

Well, good luck finding those reusable ice cubes, Peter, and Happy New Year, everyone!

I asked for a Wii...

My three older boys got the Wii for christmas (the wife decided if we're getting one, may as well get brownie points with the kids), as well as Nintendo GB DS' each from the grandparents. I got the Wii Zelda game (awesome), as well as the extra controller (Wii play) and nunchuck. It was a tech heaven christmas, with the boys uncles and other grandparents buying games for their DS'. I also got them a Pokemon Game Cube game and a wireless GC controller to play it with. Yes, they were very spoilt but also very appreciative (good kids!).

And although it didn't arrive in time for Christmas, Rayman Raving Rabbids (for the Wii) showed up today, so more fun to be had!!!
