So, with that recommendation, it's definitely worth a look, right? Well, I guess that depends on whether you trust Jerry or not. ;) Anyway, let us know your thoughts if you've tried this yourself.

Why would anybody need it ?
Does not it do what WM supposed to ?

SK Tools has a function to do the same thing. It seems to work.

What it does is clean everything out of memory that is on actually being used. It is kinda like how you have more free ram after a reboot. except with this you can skipp the reboot.

A reboot still works better and is what i do most of the time anyway.

I used this on my old SP3i. Worked very well. I just downloaded and installed it on my Treo. So far so good. It does a good job of finding all of the memory that the Treo continually looses. :way to go:

Works pretty good on my Eten. It actually seems to reclaim better than SKTools, and MemMaid combine... lol.

Also, their icon's pretty funny.

No advantage to using this over a soft reset for me, on a WM2003SE Toshiba e800. I thought for about 40 seconds that it had locked up the device, then at around 45 seconds it released screen and button control again and popped up that notification - it had closed 3 programs and released just over 2.5MB of RAM. Whoop de do. A soft reset takes about that long on the device with my setup and does it with no more effort than pressing the stylus into the little hole. Not hard. Oh, and it failed to close Wisbar Advance2 and the Belkin keyboard driver, both running just fine after it ran.

They work instantly on all three of my devices. Much faster than a soft reset. :)

I was just going to say that.

In fact it's faster than SKTools Free RAM utility.

It goes about 1-1.5 second for me.

It frees up ~ 3MB on my JAMin. Much quicker than a soft-reset on a phone edition device, also. Highly recommended!

Does anyone know of a good app (freeware preferred, but pay ok) to quickly clean out the PIE cache? It's a chore having to go through menus to delete it every time my ROM space gets low. Ideally I'd like it to be a quick run app I can map to a ctrl+key combo with PQZ...

Thanks,

Galt

I use MemMaid and it does the job. You can also configure it to run every soft-reset.

It's not free, but worth the $$

I second MemMaid as well. It also has an option to relocate your Internet cache to a storage card to free up RAM/ROM.

MemMaid and Oxios Memory are wonderful utilities to have on devices with limited memory to begin with.

I use MemMaid and it does the job. You can also configure it to run every soft-reset.Hmm.. I guess Mem Maid is an option, but as it failed to fix a previous "notifications queue" issue I'm hesitant to buy it. The SKTools demo did resolve the notification queue issue, so I'd be interested in purchasing it if it also can resolve this issue. Does anyone know if SKTools has a quick clean (or clean on reset) of the temp/cache files? The product features page ( http://s-k-tools.com/sktools/feat.html ) mentions:

"Find and delete temporary and obsolete files"
"Run SKtools when system loading"
"# "Attempt to free RAM space" in Process option."

..but I'm really not sure if I can quick-run a delete cache option or have it delete cache on soft-reset.

Does anyone know? I already downloaded a demo version of SKTools, I doubt it will allow me to re-install an unregistered demo to test this again.

Any other JAMin users using this? Suddenly I cannot get past the blue Windows Mobile screen on a soft-reset. :confused totally:

Galt, I use the little program "FastCleanup for Pocket PC v1.3" which does what you are looking for:

- Delete all temporary files under \Temp directory.
- Delete all Avantgo downloaded files.**
- Delete all IE downloaded files (cache, cookies and history files).
- Find the cached files and directories (even located on external card) and delete them automatically.

**you are asked if you want it to do that

You can download the FREE app (7KB) here:

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Hope it has an option for not deleting cookies, don't want to do that.

It is faster than a hard reset and released lots of memory, but it froze my X50v with WM2003SE after running. Had to soft reset to recover. I'm running a number of custom tabs under PocketBreeze, and this may not be compatible with that setup.

Sorry. No, it hasn't got one. And it's only for WM 2002 and 2003 devices as I just found out. I don't know if it works under WM 5.

But I found that old thread. Still worth a reading:

great little thread. I also found these two programs to be much much faster than soft rebooting. Also, thanks for the tip regarding running MemMaid need at reboot

If you want you can even have SK Tools do it automatically. There is an automation option that till clean most things for you. Or you can go in and do all or some of the option at one time manually.

Hmmm. Worked fine later. It may be ActiveSync that it doesn't like. It was in the cradle during the first attempt.

The new beta version of sktools 3 seems to have a great quick clean app that does exactly what I'm looking for very effectively. The beta didn't (or hasn't yet) asked for a reg code, but I will be purchasing this as soon as I either know the current 2.x version will be a free upgrade or when version 3 is released.

The latest version of MemMaid incorporates this feature. So for those of us who already paid for and use MemMaid, the Oxios program is rather redundant.
