<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/default.asp' target='_blank'>http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/default.asp</a><br /><br /></div><i>"Resco Explorer 2005 is a powerful file management utility for your Pocket PC. It implements all standard features such as file/folder manipulation. Thus, you can copy, move or delete files, create folders, run programs with arguments, and search for files or folders."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20050826-RescoExplorer2005.jpg" /><br /><br />In my opinion, Resco Explorer 2005 is the deity of all mobile file browsers. Packed with a file manager, a Today plugin, a built-in viewer, system information support, encryption support, archive support, a registry editor, a network browser, and Windows Mobile 5.0 support, Resco Explorer clearly has more features than you can poke a stick at. A 14-day trial version is available from <a href="http://www.handango.com/ampp/store/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&productId=11118&productType=2">Handango</a>, and if it's to your liking, it can be purchased for $24.95. Looks like I just made it under the 1 year limit. Just sent my request, so should get it in 24 hours.

Interesting. This (http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/buy.asp) says that if you own a Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Loox 610, HP iPAQ h19XX, h41XX, h43XX, h51XX you are eligible for a 40% discount.

The same page says free upgrades for one year but it isn't clear whether that's to or from v2005.

If you want to find out some of the capabilities of Resco Explorer, you can read my review (http://review.svpocketpc.com/rescoexplorer5/RescoExplorer5.html) of Resco Explorer 2003 Version 5.0. (Make sure you have a fast connection to download all of the screen shots. :-))

The review isn't of 2005, but 2005 doesn't sound like it added many new features other than a Today plug-in and Windows Mobile 5 support.

If you last purchased it less than a year ago, you're eligible for a free upgrade. Otherwise, if you last purchased it over a year ago, you're eligible for a 50% discount. emmfan's link has more information.

what is a motherload? maybe you mean mother lode (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&amp;va=mother+lode&amp;x=20&amp;y=6), but that doesn't really make sense...

here is this old woman
she lives down the road
you can often find her
kneeling inside of her hole
and i often ask her
"are you looking for the mother lode?"
huh?
no.
no my child, this is not my desire
and then she said
I'm digging for fire

Anyone get this new version to install properly? I have tried it twice now and both times the install forder remains empty and the app cannot be found when I try to launch it????

It's a bit of urban slang for "jackpot". I guess not everyone has heard it before. :|

Darius, sorry to be pedantic, but frax is right. The slang really is mother lode. The root is a mining term, meaning something like a bonanza.

Steve (pony), that's a really good review, well detailed and covers a lot of the features of a rich application.

Eh, I actually looked it up and I think you're right. Either I've had some bad urban influence or I'm posting too late.

Anyway, I've just avoided the term altogether - so let's get back on topic, shall we? ;)

Yes, it works fine on my A730w... no complaints with it, but clearly, the key upgrade feature from 2003 was the today plugin.

If the today plugin supports skins it would completly remove my needs for SBP Pocket Plus since the only part of it that i use is the meters and shortcuts on the today screen!

This may sound petty, but I refuse to go back to using RE until they fix the fact that when you delete a file, the file list scrolls back to the beginning of the list. This can be quite annoying if you are working with files.

I have since been using GSFinder.

jhennig

that is rediculous, however, it saves you money so why not ditch RE?

The today plug in is skinable. It comes with 2 default and compact. They are in /program files/resco/todayskins. They are all png files.
It is also a program launcher for any app you want not just the resco apps.
And unlike pocket plus i can show program and storage memory on seperate icons without having to hack it. :)

It's referring to the seams or layers gold or other things are found in when mining. When you find the Mother Lode you find a particularly rich seam, or the main local vein, and you are gonna be rich, rich I say.

I just tested it and it works fine on my end. Did you have a previous version installed, and if so, uninstall it first?

Darius,

Can you delete a file and see if the list scrolls up to the top?

TIA!

No, it doesn't. It stays in the same position post-deletion.

Cool! I really like R.E. but if they've fixed the scroll to top issue, that makes it even better. :)

I hate that auto-refresh, too (but didn't notice it until well after I was done with my review of Resco Explorer 2003 Verison 5). However, the Resco Explorer page (http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/default.asp) says that it was fixed:

What's new in version 5.20

contains Today Screen Plugin
new QVGA icons
easier button navigation
supports square screen
enhanced network scanning
ZIP supports national characters
rename works also with HW keyboard
restoring position after Delete/Duplicate
I think that last item is what you're looking for. I wonder how Rename works, though.

Just to chime in, for those of you who try the new version out, be sure to check out the Today plugin. It works well and is faster than I expected. :)

Wow... everyone is competing for the same space it seems. My Today screen. Sbsh just released iLauncher as well.

I currently use SPB Pocket Plus... decisions ... decisions...

I think Pocket Plus and iLauncher still have the majority of the market share. While Resco's Today plugin is nice, it lacks the power and functionality of the aforementioned, but it's still a suitable alternative for users that have neither of the two.

Darius, I've read and re-read the product info on the Resco site, and still don't see much that was added.

Is there much difference at all from RE 2003? Upgrade is $12.47 which isn't that bad if they added much, but is pretty steep iif the only new items are the Today screen plugin and the WM 2005 support. Yet I don't see that they added anything else. (Other than the retain position after delete, which doesn't really bother me that much). I wouldn't use the plugin at all, and I'm not sure when I'll use a WM 2005 device.

Thanks!

The Today plug-in, Windows Mobile 5.0 support, updated UI and the press-and-hold context menu are the major changes you'll notice. Plus there's all the usual bug fixes. If Resco Explorer 2003 works fine for you and you have no plans to use a Windows Mobile 5.0 device anytime soon, then I think you may as well stick with what you have at the moment. It still works well, and you'll save a bit of cash in the process.

I thought the tap and hold menu has been there forever. :confused totally: Or is this something else I didn't see on the Resco site?

Looks like Rename causes the file list to refresh and scroll to the top just like 2003. Anybody figure out a way to make the list static.

Rename is tricky. Do you resort the list of files then put you where the renamed file is? Do you resort the list and keep you at the previous/next file where you were (as if the file had been deleted)? Do you not resort the list at all and keep you at the renamed file? I don't know.

Duplicate has some of those problems, too, but because the original file is still there with the original name, the obvious solution seems to just stay at that file. Of course, you could also go to the duplicate file because that's presumably the one you want to work with.

Quick question - Is the older resco 2003 file explorer compatible with Windows Mobile 5? I have the older program and don't want to upgrade if I don't have to because it works fine!

Still waiting on my Dell Axim to arrive so haven't managed to install/test it yet.

Only the latest build of Resco Explorer 2005 fully supports Windows Mobile 5.0. You might be able to install your version of Resco Explorer 2003, but you won't get softkey support, and a couple of features might not work properly.

I've found that Explorer 2003 does work on my x51v with almost no problems. The only thing I've found is that one of my FTP sites causes a crash in Explorer. That same FTP site works correctly on a WM2003SE device, so their FTP implementation may be a little screwy.
