<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.markab.it/meter/html/login_eng.asp' target='_blank'>http://www.markab.it/meter/html/login_eng.asp</a><br /><br /></div>Here's one for you to bookmark on your Pocket PC/Smartphone: markab.it has a simple ASP page for benchmarking your wireless connection. It downloads a file to your device, then gives you a measurement of your download speed. It seems optimized for mobile devices though because when I tried it on my desktop browser I got a paltry 230 kbps. I believe you'll need to clear your browser cache if you want to run it more than once.

There is no sign up. I've used it for a long time.

EDIT: Wow, they say i'm getting 160.3 Kbps on my gprs connection! The site i linked gives me 54 Kbps. Which one do you think is more accurate?

EDIT2: ok, make sure you clear your cache or completly read Jason's post before you expect to get a reliable answer from this site.

Here is the version i wrote that is similar to the one posted...

http://www.izaino.com/meter.asp

All it does is download 50KB's of data and measure the amount of time it took. If the page is cached in the browser it is read from memory instead of over the internet.

DSLreports's version is better I think but I use both.

Yea... the one on izaino is old and needs to be re-written so i mostly use www.dslreports.com/mspeed now.

It was ok with older GPRS networks but now that were into faster speeds and providers are using compression to speed things up it needs to be redone.....

Using dslreports I consistently get ~ 700kbs at home and ~800kbs at work. I like that they also report latency as that is more important than speed for some people.

This is on an i730 with Verizon EVDO in S. California.
