I left my IPAQ 5555 in the car over a business trip followed by vacation (about 20 days). Now it has no juice to start and won't even blink (charging) when I put it in the cradle. I put it in the battery pack (which was also in the car) and it started to start, then went blank again.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Most HP's have a safety feature that once they run so low that they won't turn on. This is done to help ensure that your data isn't lost since if you run a Pocket PC completely dead it looses everything. I will be just like the day you bought it. All data will be gone, all programs will need to be reinstalled.

So HP has this program built in that shuts off your pocket pc once the power gets below a certin level to make sure that you have a bit of power left to keep your info alive.

I believe that what you are seeing is this program in action. Put your HP on the charger and come back in a few hours. It should turn on then. But I would think that if it has been dead for 20+ days... you data is probably gone.

In addition to the info above, I also left my Ipaq in a car, although only for the afternoon and when I turned it on there was a message saying due to the battery temp the charge circuit had been disconnected.

After a few hours the battery cooled and it has been fine

Let it plugged into original cradle over night... nothing. Took out battery and "started it" again. This caused the loading bar and then a bright blank screen... then shut down. :(

I'm going to leave it plugged in over the weekend in the hope this works on Monday.

If anyone has had a similar problem or any other solutions I'd appreciate the assist. Thanks.

I have a similar problem with my 2210. I have a broken battery door so I had to use tape to keep it on but it wouldn't hold the battery connected all the time so the thing kept soft resetting on me. Then, just the other day I woke up to nothing. No matter what I do it won't turn on. I have tried leaving it in the cradle(no blinking charging light), tried just using the ac adapter straight into my handheld(same problem - no blinking) I have tried soft and hard resetting to no avail. So maybe a solution for you could be the same solution for me. I have thought about trying to get a new battery to see if it fixes the problem but I don't want to spend the money unless I am sure it will make my handheld work.

Make sure you try soft/hard reset mechanisms. However, a very deep discharge of a Li-Ion or Li-Poly battery can actually cause damage. You may end up needing a new battery if it still doesn't work.

Gary -- your problem sounds a little different, since it's an "overnight" issue. Again, you can try a soft/long reset or an extended charge. You could also try leaving the battery out for a while and then putting it back in. However, you may have to call HP up for that issue.

The last time this happened to me, I had to do a hard reset while the device was plugged in on external power (mine was not in the cradle, I used the adapter and plugged directly into the bottom) - give that a shot!

I had the same thing happen on my 5550 and after chargeing nothing! The solution though was simple i just did a soft reset and bingo all up and working again! Lost data and programs on ipar but SD card was fine. Hope that helps.

I am having the same problem on my 5455. Left it in a coat pocket playing music on a friday, and come monday, the battery was totally dead.

I have tried all of the following, all with the same result: the charging indicator will not start flashing; it just won't start charging.

put on cradle.
put on cradle, press power on
put on cradle, pop battery off, back on, press power.
put on cradle, press all buttons
put on cradle, pop battery off, push all buttons, put battery back on.
put on charging adapter connector instead of cradle, so that I can reach the reset button, pressed reset.
adapter, power button, reset button
adapter, reset button, power button
adapter, hold down reset, press power, release reset
adapter, hold down power, press reset, releae power
adapter, hold down calendar, task buttons, press reset, release buttons.
adapter, hold down calendar, task buttons, press power, release buttons.
adapter, remove battery, reset, replace battery, reset
adapter, remove battery, power, replace battery, power
remove battery, remove adapter, store for 24 hours, reconnect battery, adapter, hit reset.
then hit power.
dig in garage in desparation to find BestBuy PPP documents to take back to store for help. no dice, can't find it.
try my other power brick at the office with all the above tests.
clean bottom plug connectors, and try tests again.

There has got to be a way to jump start this thing into charging the battery.

For the record, this is not the first time this @#$% has done this to me. this is about the 4th time. usually, just letting all batteries totally drain, then reassemble and recharge works. This time, nothing is bringing it back up.

The battery itself is not dead, and was able to power the unit reliably for over an hour playing continuous MP3's with the screen off up until the weekend it died. It has performed the same before and after the last 3 times it did this.

What should I do next? I have tried everything else mentioned in this thread with no luck.

OK after trying everything I could think of, including each of the above items this is what I did.

I went on e-bay and purchased the CHEAPEST Ipaq 55xx battery I could. It was something like $25.00.
It fits very poorly in my unit, but I used the expansion pack to hold it in tightly and put it in the cradle and LEFT IT ALONE for 24 hours. When I went back to it the light was blinking as if it was charging.

I took it out of the crade and smiled as it started up like a new product. Yea I lost EVERYTHING and my last backup was 45 days ago... BUT it works. /releaved sigh.

Better news. I then pulled the new battery, put the old one back in and placed the unit back in the battery expansion case AND plugged it into the cradle. This time the light started blinking on the unit and the original battery started charging again... its up to 75% now.

I think the above post was right in that my abandonment for 20 days had run the internal battery into the ground. (the 110 degree heat wave sitting in the car probably didn't help).

I'm just glad I don't have to ship it back down to Texas for the experts to repair... no offense guys but its nice to solve this one for $25.00.

Thanks to everyone who made a suggestion. Keep the faith Trimble... I thought mine was dead for sure.
