<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.handango.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.handango.com/</a><br /><br /></div><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20050628-Handango.gif" /><br /><br />Earlier this month, Handango opened its beta portal for testing (dubbed, <a href="http://beta.handango.com/">"Handango Enhanced"</a>). That phase is now over, and the new-look Handango has just been launched. Besides the eye-candy, Handango now features an improved search engine, enhanced navigation features, and a new software recommendations section. To be honest, the new appearance probably won't affect me much since I've always used the <a href="http://www.handango.com/ampp/store/PlatformHome.jsp?siteId=311&platformId=2">Pocket PC Thoughts software store</a>, which I've happily accustomed to over the past couple of years. However, for all you daily Handango visitors, what are your thoughts on the new look? Better or worse?<br /><br /><b>Update #1:</b> Okay, so the site <u>was</u> updated a short while ago, but it seems to have reverted back to the old version. I'm hoping within the next couple of hours, it'll switch back.<br /><br /><b>Update #2:</b> After long hauls of failed load attempts and hacked site designs, the new Handango appears to have returned (again). Hopefully, it'll remain "as-is" for good, and if it doesn't, then...

When clicking on the story title or my bookmark, I'm still getting the old site. However, clicking on the "Handango Enhanced" link, I get through to the beta site and can see that they haven't (yet) taken my comment regarding the lack of a sort by "date of Last Update" on board.
I go to the Handango site daily to check if there's any updates to the software I use - under the new beta site, my check will take far longer and be more frustrating.

WORSE!. Where are the updated/new filters?
Why do you need to pick your smartphone before seeing the apps? They dont all show the same apps even if they are running the same OS!

The current Handango site doesn't look like it's compatible with Firefox, which is so uncool :?

I hope they have REALLY improved their search engine! It SUCKS big time. The way it was, it was totally useless, and made me use Google to find the software on Handango's pages! Searching for popular software like WorldMate or PocketBreeze, brings up all kinds of results that include the word 'World' or 'Pocket' - except for the ones I'm looking for!
So if only the horrible search engine has been improved - I'm pretty happy :-)
Thomas.

Yeah, it was fine a couple of hours ago. Now I think it's just stuck in the ugly transition phase (thankfully, this wasn't the new change I was talking about).

Yeah, guess it's alright now, after I've forced a refresh of the webpages. Now I know what you meant by the ugly transition  The new site looks clean & neat. However, the webpages are taking an awfully long time to load, or never seem to load at all
Don't like it much. I usually go straight to the page of updated programmes - can't find any such page. I did tell them this when they had the beta running. So unless it's hidden it will take ages to trawl through finding my progs and checking version numbers etc.

Err ... it's reverted to the old version again! Tried doing a refresh as well.

I totally agree, the search engine inhales deeply and rapidly!!!!

Can I have the old version back please? The new one seems rather unless you want to see what they are recommending (making the highest profit margin on) If you click on "newest" you don't get anything like that. When I check Handango, which I do very regularly, I do it to see what's new.

I agree - the Newest sort for What's New had something dated 6th July at the top, followed by something dated 17th July (or have Handango redefined the meaning of the word "Newest"?).
And they definitely haven't addressed my feedback that the new site doesn't help people checking for updates to the software they use.

The one feature I used regularly was the 'updated software'.... gone it seems...
As far as the overall look... I think I liked the old one better as well.

Yeah, I've noticed that for the most part, new and updated software is now categorised under "Newest", and... there's stuff in there dating back to December 2004. 8O

Under my account, they've got something called "My Watch List" - I guess that their intention is that you keep a watch for updates to the software you've purchased through this. However, it appears that you can only create a maximum of 10 Watch Lists, each containing 5 items!

I'm in the process of e-mailing
[email protected] as follows:
"About half an hour ago, I was on the site and clicked to sort the initial Windows Mobile selections by Newest. The top one in the list was Pocket Sudoku, which had a submitted date of 2005-07-11 19:57:10, with the second in the list being submitted more recently.
I just went back and did exactly the same sort request, and Pocket Sudoku has been relegated to second in the list, being replaced by PictPocket Cinema which has a submitted date of 2004-10-29 01:20:41.
Please, please, can we have the New and Updated tabs back again?
Regards,
Ian."

They've now added a new sort category "Updated Date" - but it still doesn't work!
Top fo the list is Export & Import Books Collection - submitted 2005-06-17, followed by Orneta FTP for Pocket PC - submitted 2004-02-03, with the third in the list being EarthCalc - submitted 2005-06-25!
Spb Pocket Plus v3.0 is the fourth item on the second page!
Grrrrr!!

I can't get into my account to redownload. And I can't find any technical support page.
Anyone know where it is?
