I have a zippered pouch in my gear bag that has all kinds of little adapters and tools. Things like the Victorinox CyberTool and FlexUSB adapter. I just found another adapter that will be taking up permanent residence in that pouch: The EagleTec SD to CF card adapter, which I received from Brando. There isn't anything really mysterious about this adapter. It is basically a CF Type II shell, with a slot that an SD card can plug into."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/eagletec-sd2cf-adapter1.jpg" /><br /><br />Sounds like a useful product, and it's great that it sits flush with the edge of the slot - the adaptor I have from Pretec sticks out the top of the slot. The lack of a lip for easy extraction makes it almost worthless in my opinion though - having to carry a tool to make use of another is not my idea of being mobile. ;-)

You could always just stick a post-it flag on the thing to get it out, like we do with our micro-drives. This is indispensible to those that have CF cameras, which typically have doors and don't work with the adapters where the card sticks out, and SD only PPCs. It's not the only one of these on the market, but is about half the price of the other ones I've seen.

I have a SD to CF Adapter type I from PNY. Works very well. And with the lid too.

Yep - the PNY is a good card. I use it with SanDisk and Kingston 512MB SD cards in my digital camera.

Anybody got a part number handy for the PNY Type I adapter?

Thanks,

As I said the Eagletec isn't the only one, but the price is good.

I have a Minolta SD-CF1 http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=minolta+sd-cf1&amp;hl=en&amp;lr=&amp;tab=wf&amp;scoring=p I like that it is a type I card, and it works with my Canon Powershot with no problems. It lets me take pictures, and ftp it to using my smartphone on the go.

I have had the Mittoni SD to CF adapter for about 9 months now. Has a little fingernail groove to make it easy to extract it from the PPC. I have a HX4700, and I have replaced the CF spacer with the Mittoni card with an old 256MB SD card, leaving the SD slot for the 1GB SD. A little more expensive than the one in this post, but does not need pliers to extract.

Just a question regarding the Minolta adapter, does the SD card protrude past the edge of the adapter. I am thinking of using one of these in a Canon EOS300D (Digital Rebel).

Trying to decide whether to buy a second hand laptop to take with me on photo trips or use my Pocket PC, pocket loupe or similar and a 4GB Microdrive to store the photos I want to keep. To do this I would need to use SD cards in the camera and transfer the images I want to keep onto the microdive at night using the Pocket PC

Someone is reselling a "brand new" one on Amazon.com for $39 (Amazon doesn't currently have it themseleves).

Are there no such thing as converting SD slot to CFII? For people who only has SD slot and no CF slot...

Nope. It is completely flush. Once you put the SD card in, it will act exactly like a regular CF memory card. And, since it is a Type I card, it works with any CF slot, Type I or II. (one of my major determining factor for the purchase) I also have no problem removing the card with my bare finger.

Do you remember where you had bought it from? I tried clicking the vendors from that Froogle page but they're all listed as out of stock and such...

I got my from Amazon.com

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00008WD8W/qid=1118786344/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/102-5297081-7376957?v=glance&amp;n=507846

I think it is available from J&amp;R as well, but nearly impossible to use their search engine to locate.

WARNING: do not use a SD to CF adapter to format the SD card! You can read and write, but not format when using the adapter. Use a SD card reader for formatting.

As a side note, there is another CF II adapter:

Does this support the use of SDIO peripherals, or just SD memory cards?

Are there any current and cheaper versions on internal SD to CF adaptors? I've been looking around and US$52 seems rather a high price for this. (Plus I can't find on in the UK for sale).

Don't Panic!

Are there no such thing as converting SD slot to CFII? For people who only has SD slot and no CF slot...I once read of one that was handmade at an electronis specialty shop in Japan. I can't find a link to it and I do not belive they created it for sale but more as a proof of concept kind of thing.
