Well, all new (and even older ones) video cards can go up to 2048 x 1536, and the chances of a dell 20" lcd monitor going that high is highly unlikely. My 23" CRT at home can go up to 2048 x 1536, but I only run it at 1920x1440 on an FX5900. I have yet to see a consumer-end lcd monitor that can run that high or at 2048 x 1536.

You're best bet would be CRT if you want to go that high.

Assumoing you are using WindowsXP - you are probably going to find that any current video card will easily support this resolution - 1680x1280 ??? - but what you also need to be sure of is that either you buy a card that is dual head (one card, two monitor outputs) or else buy two cards.

If you have to buy two cards, then you need to dump your current one, Then you need to decide if you want two PCI cards, or one AGP and one PCI.

You should also check to see if your current card supports the resolution you need. Either check the card manual, the manufacturer's web site, or just wait until you have the Dell monitors so you can test ... If you can use your existing graphics card, then you only need to buy one more card for the second monitor.

Ok, so this is the monitor you're looking at getting two of?

It runs 1680 x 1050 resolution, which any modern video card will go. An nVidia 6600-based card will do just fine, but you'll want one with dual DVI ports. Look for an eVGA card. This is the card that I have for my twin 20.1" Dell LCDs:

yep the dell 2005fpw. yea im going for the xfx dual dvi 6600GT card since the 6600s have been rated as the best bang for the buck. finally i have some confirmation. i wish i could get a 6800, but right now spending around $300 isnt something i want to do.

wide or no widescreen if a card can cover over the max res of your monitors it should be fine? nothing special is need for widescreen support right?

Yes, that's correct - nothing special is needed for widescreen support.
