Boxwave Release Active Case for X50v: Transparent & Tough

The clear protective shell lets you admire the elegant black and silver styling of the svelte Dell Axim X50v. (Well, I would say that, wouldn't I. ;-)) The rigid covering plastic has holes to allow access to the buttons, is shaped to follow the X50's contours, comes with a detachable belt clip and apparently locks solidly into place. I really like these case. I'm probably going to get one for my Axim sometime soon.

Sigh, I want a clear case for my 4350.. now all I have is the Innopocket aluminum case.. but I guess thats more tough and durable than some cheap plastic :D

Would contoured hard shells like this plastic or aluminum help protect the PPC if you drop it (like say on the concrete sidewalk), or would soft leather provide more "cushioning" against the impact?

If a metal case has a lining (my Innopocket Titanium has a thin neoprene-ish lining) I would think that would offer some protection, as would a leather case. Of course, it depends on the angle of the unit on impact ;)

unfortunetely I have the Extended battery in my device most of the time and therefore this wouldn't fit in this case. Oh well

I liked the look of this so much that I have already orded one - and I don't have an X50 either!

Now I guess i will have to get an Axim to go along with the case.....

:lol: That would help! Personally I prefer my leather syncable flip case from Sena, as it's more discreet when closed, but still allows me to admire the X50v when the case is open.

If I wanted to show the X50v off however, something like this would be ideal.

I used to own a clear case for another PDA, and these plastic cases clearly don't have the impact protection that a metal/neoprene case would. But they are very effective in protecting from smaller, bumps and scrapes. Also, I am guessing that this case is a bit smaller than the metal cases.

If i had the spare cash to burn, I might buy one...

I think that case would be a better choice for storm chasing.

I've had my HP 4150 fall from waist height onto concrete inside an Innopocket aluminum case more than a few times with nary a scratch (to the Pocket PC). Not that Id recommend you try this yourself but it is nice to have that protection when you really need it.

Does this thing have a screen cover? I don't see one and can't understand why anyone would want a case that doesn't protect the screen (arguably the most important part of a pda).

I'm still using my metal Dell case and will continue to do so. It's survived multiple drops with no problems. My only worry is that the Axim can slide out of the case so easily. Anyone have a solution for locking it in when the cover is open?

Umm, I believe that the whole screen is covered by the plastic, hence my commend about not being able to use the touchscreen. Have another look at the animated gif I posted. :wink:

Sorry. I'm using a "high speed" connection that downgrades all the images to load up faster and I couldn't see a cover on the case. Now that I know it has one, it's even worse than I originally thought. Who wants to have to remove the PDA from the case every time they need to access information?!?

Do these engineers ever actually put these things in the hands of real people for a simple sanity check? Sheeesh.

...I would say something more like, "Too bad it's from Boxwave." I won't trust Boxwave to stand behind any of its products except for its screen protectors.

In fact I believe that the cover can flip completely around to sit at the back of the PDA (something I have really missed from my ol' Newtons).

As for Boxwave - I think they are just reselling a "badge engineered" version of this case. I bought mine from a Hong Kong based re-seller on ebay and as far as I can tell it is the exact same case. Not only that but it cost me quite a bit less - only £3.00 (US$5.67) for the case and another £6.00 for shipping from HK for a total of just over US$16.00!

I'm still using the nylon slip cover that came with my X50v. I don't like it, but it's thinner than the enormous Rhino Skin metal case I bought from Dell at the same time I ordered the Axim. I'd love to have a nicer case with a flip cover, whether leather or clear plastic. Syncable would be nice as well. But whatever it is, it has to be thin.

I hate even having to use a case with a PPC. They all should come with flip covers so you don't need a case. I saw one of the new HP 2400 (?) models with a flip cover today at CompUSA. It was very nice.

(My wife has a similar metal case for her HP 1910. I think it's even a Rhino. But it's thin and sleek, unlike my Dell's.)
