I wish Dell australia had such good coupons. We never get great deals like that. Only ones on high systems. Yeah, you get AU$1000 off a AU$4000 system, but what would be nice is AU$500 off a AU$1500, or $1400 unit, Like you guys get. :(

I hear ya - I wish this coupon was good in Canada. I don't really NEED a new laptop right now, but it would be nice anyway.

I'm a Dell affiliate, so we got notice of it yesterday. And it's 8 AM central time, which is 7 AM mountain time - you're probably in my time zone. ;-)

Thanks for the info. But it does not apply to Inspiron 700m. It says expired.

The Inspiron 9300 says expired as well and that was at 9am CST. :(

I configured a 600m and it also states that the coupon is expired. Any idea what the coupon does work for?

The bargain sites are reporting that this coupon hit its limit of 10,000 uses within 48 minutes of going live at 6am PST... I had already gotten my dad's hopes up and then I had to call and tell him he wouldn't be getting his laptop at half-price... :(

Wow, 48 minutes! That's insane! Did anyone here get to use the coupon?

After playing around with the latest and greatest Latitudes that I setup for a user in my office…if their corp hardware is any indication to Dell quality I wouldn't touch a Dell laptop if you gave one to me for free. Check that I would take it, sell it on ebay, and get myself a Thinkpad.
It’s been years since we've done any upgrades in the office, and IMHO their quality has gone down the drain in a BIG way. Whether or not a 3 figure laptop whose quality is cheap is a good deal is another matter and is highly subjective I guess. *shrugs* YMMV.

i have an i8600, and my my dads office now has 10 Dells (6x 8600, 2x X300, 1x D800) and there are no problems with them.
Its always funny when someones says things like "I wouldn't even take it if it was free". Of course you would. Whos going to refuse a free laptop??

I wouldn't, if it means having to put up with lost data due to crashes, so forth.

Well, wait a minute, it's one thing to say they feel/look cheap, but data loss? That requires incompetent engineering, which I wouldn't put on Dell...

Yeah, just because in your opinion dells build quality isn't great, data loss is something completely different, and doesn't have anything to do with the original post about the build quality. I am yet to experience that sort of thing on my 8600.

Great score!
These things pop up from time to time, so if you missed this one, don't fret too bad. About a month ago, I caught a 35% off coupon for laptops, that brought my $2245 laptop down to $1459.25, a savings of $785.75.
What's really great about Dell is that their "percent off" coupons tend to cover the ENTIRE system build, including any add-ons and extended warranties purchased with the system. Part of that $2245 price I got included a three-year "mobility" warranty. A next-business-day, onsite response warranty with accidental damage protection (a must for laptops with larger screens... mine was of the 17" widescreen variety). Oh... and there was a rebate on that warranty as well, which was NOT included in the price, so I not only got a 35% discount on the warranty, but also got $130 back. I think the warranty was $378, but after discount and rebate, it cost about $115. Not a bad investment at all for a 3-year onsite warranty with accidental damage coverage!
Anyhoo... for lower-end laptops, this deal was indeed killer, but for slightly higher-end laptops, a good 35% off coupon is probably not too far off (they do it all the time), and you could end up saving more than the $750 that this coupon offered. Just be patient, and keep an eye out for the deal.
Awesome deals :) I've had to content myself with 20% off all ThinkPad purchases in addition to any promos they happen to be running (the 20% is always available though). I wish I'd known about it when buying our previous ThinkPad before, which had cost over $3K.
So now I'd bought two more ThinkPads a couple of months back with the discount, and am about to buy another one. None of us here really want a large desktop replacement though, so it's usually either X40 ultralight portable (12") or T43 thin-and-light (14" or 15")...

I'd love to get an ultraportable. most of my time i use my laptop for listening to music, websurfing and email. No need for the big guns. I think my next computer purchase will be a small and light laptop and later a good desktop. I take my laptop to school every day, and the 8600 is a bit big for daily travel. Having divorced parents, and travelling between houses about 4 times a week is also another reason to get a portable laptop.
I do freelance video editing, so a good pc is a must. Therefore I would need a laptop and a desktop.
^ Sounds good :) What's funny, even though the T43 14" (4.5 lbs) is considered thin-and-light medium class compared to the huge 16"-17" behemoths, when I switch back and forth between it and the X40, the 14" screen on the T43 just feels huge to me and overall it feels gargantuan. I can't even imagine how a 16-17" screen would feel then...
Anyways one reason I went with 12" ultraportable size this time is that my first laptop years ago was a huge desktop replacement, and it got stolen on campus within the first week of my owning it  It was so big and heavy that once I had it on a table outside the computer lab, I was reluctant to stuff it back and carry it with me to the bathroom. Stupid mistake of course, it was gone after I got back...
