http://mobile.google.com/local

Google now has a local search engine for mobile phones. Of course, it works great on Pocket PCs too. Simply enter the place you are looking for and the city and state. It seems to work with Canadian cities as well. A quick try of London though resulted in an invalid address.

You can see that it allows you to zoom in and out, move around and get driving directions. It seems the zoom here got a little too close to what was going on inside a particular Starbucks. 8O

Next thing you know, you'll be able to search your house for where you placed your car keys. Something like http://lastplaceyoulook.google.com. Too bad it'll take a team of index specialists a day or so to completely catalog your house and it'll take up a nice big corner of your house for storage of the generated index.

But the benefit will be well worth trouble.

Really, Google is going crazy on this searching stuff..

I assume that was London England that came up invalid. I just tried a VERY Canadian search for London Ontario.....Tim Horton's and got four pages of results. ;)

Now if they will only add support for the satellite maps to the mobile version!

Got me hooked. Guess I can remove the mapblast channel from Avantgo. Just today able to connect my PDA to my Motorola V710, surf the web and download e-mails and it worked flawlessly. Not Wifi speeds, but, good enough. Now if Verizon could un-cripple the Bluetooth on the phone life would be perfect.

ONLY 8O 4 pages of Tim Horton results for London, Ontario. Now that's just not right. Maybe Krispy Kreme is really making a dent in the Tim Horton's empire.

I tried the google search on my PPC and was a bit confused by the results coming through the wml portal. Are the search results WAP? I couldn't follow any of the links. Was this only for phones?

I think I prefer www.google.com/palm for my PPC.
