<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.cubeengine.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.cubeengine.com/</a><br /><br /></div><i>"Cube is an open source multiplayer and singleplayer first person shooter game built on an entirely new and very unconventional engine. Cube is a landscape-style engine that pretends to be an indoor FPS engine, which combines very high precision dynamic occlusion culling with a form of geometric mipmapping on the whole world for dynamic LOD for configurable fps &amp; graphic detail on most machines. . . does decent collision detection &amp; physics, has client/server networking that goes a long way in giving a lag-free game experience, and features a Doom/Quake-style singleplayer (2 game modes, savegames) and multiplayer (12 game modes, master server / server browser, demo recording) game with some uncompromising brutal oldskool gameplay."</i><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/screenshot_199627 (400 x 300).jpg" /> <br /><br />Cube has apparently been ported to the Pocket PC by Intel. It only works on the <a href="http://cubeengine.com/cube_intel_pda/">Dell X50v,</a> as it uses Intel's 2700G graphics accelerator. I downloaded Cube last night and gave it a quick once over. As these <a href="http://www.cubeengine.com/shots.php4">screenshots show,</a> I'd say it was well worth a longer look. It is a work in progress and is currently completely unoptimised, but getting 16 frames a second while wandering round a nicely rendered landscape in full 3D is impressive. You can get more details of the game at the <a href="http://www.cubeengine.com/">cube website</a> and you can download it from <a href="http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=91993">sourceforge.</a> I like the future of portable gaming! :D<br /><br /><b>Update:</b> OK, this is why you have to always read the fine print: "64Mb RAM minimum, 128Mb for single player with monsters". So that's why I can't find any.  So, only specially upgraded X50vs can play with monsters. :? Lets hope that limitation is removed when the game is optimised.

Drool x infinity. I'm seriously lost for words at this stage.

You know, I'm liking my X50v more and more as time goes on. ;-)

It is very pretty is'nt it, and comes with a few different maps as well. Must give connecting to a server a whirl and see how well it runs

Okay so just when I am thinking that it is one of these cool new PPC Phone devices that I want along comes something like this!

Now a Dell really is looking good. I would love to have a good 1st person shooter on my PPC. I spent hours playing good ol' Quake on my Jornada and have really missed this since moving to a Toshiba e755 (the d-pad in my Tosh is just too damn unpredictable!).

WOW... absolutely gorgeous!! I imagine that's QVGA? It would only be a matter of time before we'll see that kind of 3D rendering over full VGA...

No, it IS VGA. This is on the X50v remember. I resized the picture to fit the front page as usual.

Bah. Just found out about the "64Mb RAM minimum, 128Mb for single player with monsters" limitation. :?

No monster bashing for me then. :|

Untill my next PPC with 128Mb RAM and a 3D accelerator.

Don't worry, Jonathon. Your device still gobbles mine up in every way possible. ;)

Well... you could always opt for the PocketPCTechs (http://www.pocketpctechs.com/detail.asp?Product_ID=D50-064-128RAM) solution!!

Yeah. It's definitely the luxurious solution.

Well, if you're not satisfied with the next round of WM devices, this solution might be a better investment than a new device, but then again, that might only make sense if you were actually considering a new device.
