You need to perform a "hard reset". Your Pocket PC manual should tell you how to do this.
Be warned though you WILL lose everything in the main memory of the unit, so back up anything important first.

I believe you do a hard reset.

does anyone know how to get rid of unwanted Today menu on PocketPc? I want to take out the Upcoming Appointments and Tasks portion of the Today Menu, they take up space and is useless to me.
On the Today screen tap Start -> Settings
Then tap the Today icon
This brings up a screen with 2 tabs. Select the 'Items' tab.
You should see a series of checkboxes. Tap the 'Calendar' and 'Tasks' boxes to remove the checks from the boxes. Then tap 'OK' in the top right hand corner. Navigate back to the Today screen and the Appointments and Tasks should be gone.
Hope you're enjoying life with your PPC, it only gets better :D
By the way what device do you have?

hey! ch_thom , thanks for the reply - didnt think it'd be so simple , i overlooked the today icon before somehow.
i have an ipaq 1915, just ordered a 1gig sd ! and i agree, pocket pc is amazing, quite limitless to the things you can do with it - espeically with the available software and future softs to come! it does only get better!
my ipaq specs isnt it amazing but it's quite good for some quick fun, scheudle managing, pictures, mp3s playback. and what's more importantly to me, the size ! it's so small!

I find that hard reseting does not totally clean out my PPC. There are tidbits of database left.

What I do when the situation arises is hard-reset, clean everything out of the File Store in File Explorer and hard-reset again. This is on an iPaq 5550; ymmv on other devices.

:confused totally:
Which databases are you referring to?
A hard reset is designed to restore the Pocket PC to the factory default setting, but will leave non-volatile memory untouched, so any files you have in there will still remain there after a hard reset.

It's always dangerous to generalize, but I have found that as a rule, devices with user-accessible flash ROM storage keep PIM database info in the ROM storage area in order to protect it during a hard reset. This does protect the data during an accidental wipe (such as a dead battery or a severe device lock-up), but also keeps it around after a user-initiated hard reset. You will need to check your device documentation to find the setting that is keeping an emergency backup of the database info in ROM and deactivate it. That should let you do a hard reset without preserving unwanted PIM data.

disolutedmind, when you get that SD card, one thing you may want to consider is creating a My Documents directory on it. Then you will want to look at hidden files and see if the OS has created a file named ignore_my_docs in the root. Get rid of that.
The File open dialogs you get in most apps (that file list you get when you open word or notes, is designed to look in My Documents folders no matter where they are. You will find that programs can be loaded onto your SD card like they can to a hard drive on a PC. If you don't have a My Documents directory on the SD and leave the ignore file. the OS will scan your entire SD worth of program files looking for application files when you open an app. Slows it down.
