I love the look of this device (but then I returned an Ipaq and bought a Jornada because I did not like the look and shape of the Ipaq).

Notice the depression on the left side of the unit, where the record button is. The Jornada would have had a scroll wheel there. Wonder why they dropped it.

If this device had VGA I would be all over it. Unfortunately they made the strange decision not to extend this line to its obvious conclusion.

As it is I'll be going for the Loox 720, which has a rather boring shape, but otherwise seems to have everything you could possibly fit in a PDA (which is me definition of high end).

This is a very nice looking machine; small and svelte looking. I'd love to have one but can't find enough justification to switch from my 2215 with the PPC Techs memory upgrade and Pocket Hackmaster already installed. :|

Wow, I really like it. I wonder if the sides are rubber, and if so, how long they will stay on before falling off? My Jornada 548 had rubber on the sides and to this day, has not had a problem. The 2215, well, we all know about the rubber grips on those devices. Hopefully, it won't have any problems. Too bad it doesn't have VGA. I think this may be the device that lures me away from my current device regardless...

Maybe...

For the life of me I just don't know why they put a grey tint in those flip covers.
Just makes it harder to read the screen with it on.
Hhhmmmm.....can I do without a CF slot?????

And give up my Jornada 568! NEVER!!

They'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands...

Look at the top rear pictures, I certainly see a cf and sd slot. Might the lack of cf be a typo?

Looks like a typo to me. The top of the device looks exactly like the 2215, with both CF and SD...

Besides faster processor and more memory, this basically has the same specs as the 4150. (or Dell X30, which actually has the same processor) Why couldn't they keep the 4150 form factor and just upgrade the insides? I'm sure it would have be a lot cheaper to use the same casing instead of designing a new one from the ground up.

You are right it does look like a CF/SD device, but even HP says it only has a SD slot...strnage things are afoot in HP land.

I swear, if this thing was VGA I would be all over it, but alass it is not and instead I am with x50v...a very nice device indeed!!

The entire 1900/4000 series devices were off-the-shelf designs from HTC because HP didn't have their own designs ready due to the Compaq merger. The new series of devices are the first "in house" designs from the team since 2002. HP, in their hubris, assumed they could design a better device than HTC - but it seems they could not. Everyone loved the form factor of the 4150 - notice how much the Dell X50 looks like the 4150? Guess why? HTC made the X50!

I wish they would have kept the 4155 body (don't need the CF slot) and upgraded internal memory/processor/etc.... They could have even done what Palm did with the T|e / T|T5 body... same body design, different color... a 4155 with a gunmetal grey body would be KILLER with these specs!.......
One can only wish and dream....

Ya...I noticed that after I posted but thought.........nawwwww....
Should prove interesting. Maybe I won't get a 4700 after all.

Does anyone know if it has the same connector as the 2210/15 for cables etc like the 4700 does?

Specs seem neat, although once I went VGA, there's no going back! ;)

What is with the current "bathtub" trend in PPC design, though? I think the Loox and Asus have it too... With the back and sides being one piece and the front looking like it was "dropped" in?

Ah well. I thought the X50's were ugly when I first saw pics/mockups, but I'm a-okay with them now. Probably will be the same for this PPC.

Becouse this one has a CF slot as well, kinda hard to work both SD AND CF in the 4000 series form factor

Why does HP persist on using QVGA?! D'oh! I too would have been all over this device had it come with a VGA screen like the X50.

Hopefully when HP sees the dismal sales figures this January for all the QVGA units they designed and shipped they will:

1. Get a new design team.

2. Shred the mountainous dead stock of QVGA devices sitting in their warehouse.

3. Take a solemn oath to never have the letter 'Q' appear anywhere near an HP PPC screen designation again! :devilboy:

4. Never again install volatile RAM whose size can be quantified in double digits in a windows mobile device.

5. Forget the uber-cheapo market and concentrate on the mid and high end units.

6. Promise to always offer OS upgrades for devices that are less than a year old (just threw that one in for old time's sake).

Kati, try to find a Toshiba 830 or Ipaq 4700 and compare the screen on your 50v with em, I think you will be quite dissapointed in your choice.

Not likely. The iPaq's colors are better, but the X50v is brighter and whiter. The iPaq tends towards yellow in its whites.
