I started to write a review, then shelved it for months - and today I've finally published it over at Digital Media Thoughts. So if you're interested in a small laptop with superb battery life, check out my review.

I can't get to it on my PPC. Instead, it says:
Template->make_filename(): Error - file does not exist

The problem appears to be just with the link; I can get to it directly. Anyway, good review. My wife's p2000 series laptop (similar to p5000, but a slower CPU) was also impressive when it first came out. I gotta say though, the Panasonic Toughbooks have owned all other small laptops for the past 18 months. They are lighter, have better battery life, better keyboards, and bigger screens. The W2 and Y2 are especially impressive. Some of the new Sonys are sweet too.

Wow, did you say that enough times? The P5000 is great, and I considered it, but now the newer P7000 is out and I recently acquired a P7010D. It's just a bit faster and has redesigned cosmetics, as well as a better screen and somewhat better battery life. Some of the Toughbooks are impressive too, but they were all bigger than I wanted to go - you've got to appreciate how small and light these little things are. :)

You finaly finished it :D

Jason... in your review... you keep mentioning the Pentium 4-M... which I think you are confusing with a P-M.

The P4-M is totaly different from the P-M that you have in the P5010.

BTW: Thanks to what you sent me some months ago... I bought myself a P5020. :)

I recently got a fugitsu P1120. Lighter, smaller, slower. And a lot cheaper...

I can wirelessly surf the web/email from my hotel rooms, run all my regular programs, play movies (ripped dvds), etc.

I'm getting to the point in which I'm re-evaluating the whole PDA concept, because neither MS/HP/Dell nor P1/PS seem to want to make something for getting real work done.

<$1200 for the P1120.

As far as I know W2 still is the lightest laptop with an internal ODD. (2.8lbs). I've used my W2 for about 15 months and it has served me very well. It is one of the very few laptops I can take out of the backpack using only 2 fingers.:D P5000 and P7000 are pretty good too, but they are tad heavy and running relatively hot.

Nice review. I've had my S6210 for almost a year now and I LOVE it! I agree that the screen is tremendous. Easily the best I've seen on a laptop regardless of size. There are just so many little extra touches that I'm still learning about. I would highly recommend Fujitsu for anyone looking for a laptop.

Wow, did you say that enough times?Oops. I came back here in PIE and clicking on the "Press OK to contine loading" pop-ups confused PIE into reposting for some reason. I can't seem to delete the duplicate posts now... if any moderators can do it, please feel free.

To each his own, but the W2 and Y2 weren't even a consideration for me - I wanted wide-screen, and Panasonic didn't offer that at the time (it doens't look like they do now either). The only choices I had were the P5000 series or a Sony TR series.

The P7000 is only half a pound heavier than the W2, and it's under 3.5 lbs - a tad heavy? And the running hot thing is largely exaggerated - I haven't had any problems with heat. It gets somewhat warm over the hard drive, but nothing remotely serious. It might help that I don't use the stock Fujitsu hard drive - those are supposedly pretty bad.

Yes, it's only less than a half pound difference, but when you are in the super micro light weight division, a half pound means something. Believe me. My laptop before W2 was P2110 which weighed 3.3lbs, and the weight difference between P2110 and W2 was quite noticeable. Anyways, I'm not trying to argue w2 is better than P7010 or 5010 here. Each has pros and cons, and I think I would have been happy with any of them. Currently, I'm replacing my w2 with HP DV1000 since my requirement has changed and portability is not the top priority for me anymore.

For those who missed last time, here is the thread about how Jason had decided on P5010 and his first thought. (Can't believe it was a year and half ago. Time flies...)

I wish they would release these in the UK. I own a P2020 and take it with me when I have to go away. It's just a bit slow with a Crusoe 600 and only 128mb Ram but looks fantastic still. Unfortunatly it was the last sub notebook Fujitsu Siemens released here.

I have been saying that Fujitsu makes great laptops before this review :D
It was my first laptop and I loved it. I have always enjoyed the smoothness of the keyboard on the Fujitsu's.
I have also suggested the greatness of the P1000=good size, weight, and poweful enough to get work down for the truely mobile professional:)
I have been eyeing a P700D

That is a useful review. I would like to see more reviews where it is more about real world experiences, where the product is judged by its real world performance.
