THIS IS SOOO COOL!!!

I got an invite from someone over at AppleTalk Australia (at least that's where I turned up after browsing many many forums and playing some guess the number games -- 1000 times 8O )

But I LOVE Gmail now. I forwarded alllllll of my emails to my Gmail account. (That includes 3 Hotmail's, 2 Yahoo's, 2 Spymac's, 1 ISP's, 5 Mail.com's, etc)

Gmail is by far the best web email I've seen in a long time :D

BTW I didn't even notice the ads on the side -- in fact I hardly realized they were there until I was looking at the ads entry in the help section and remembered that Gmail had them. As for email scanning, hahaha, it worries me about as much as the fact that Windows scans folders to see if they contain music files
Gmail is clean, simple, speedy, and innovative :)

I hope they release Gmail to the public soon so all of you PPCT readers can grab an account!

PS: I also want to point out that Gmail seems very accurate with the way it calculates your inbox size usage (that is, 1000MB 8) ). For example, in my main Hotmail account, they seem to exaggerate my email size, so if I send a 550KB message, hotmail acts like its a 1MB message and adds a percentage to my usage. Yahoo does the same thing, at least, that's the way I see it. As for Gmail, I sent an email totalling 4MB (almost exactly) and it reported that 4MB was used up. Then I sent a 0.8 MB email and Gmail still reported that I was using 4MB 8O
BTW: my inbox usage is 4MB (0%) LOL

PSS: I'd like to add a bit of info about another feature I like:

When you email by a conversation (Gmail links emails that you make and their replies, etc.), Gmail adds the > before every line, just like many other email applications, BUT, Gmail is the only one I've seen that allows you to hide that

Example:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Someone Bla bla bla, this is a snippet of the message, someone is the sender July 21 (3 hours ago)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Me to Someone

Bla bla bla, me is the sender. this is a reply to someone, etc and whatever.
- Show quoted text -

Clicking 'Show quoted text' will display the original message with all the >>>'s before it.

So:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Someone Bla bla bla, this is a snippet of the message, someone is the sender July 21 (3 hours ago)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Me to Someone

Bla bla bla, me is the sender. this is a reply to someone, etc and whatever.
- Hide quoted text -

On Wed, 21 Jul 2004 (time), Someone <[email protected]> wrote:
>Bla bla bla, this is a snippet of the message, someone is the sender
>whatever else might be in the message
>sometimes this stuff gets cluttered and annoying

Just thought that this was a really cool idea on Gmail's part

Gmail is cool :).

I checked my hotmail and it said "You are using 50% of your 2 MB"

and gmail says "You are currently using 17 MB (2%) of your 1000 MB."

2 MB...come on :D

Gmail is definitely one of the crispest web mail services I've used in a long time, which is why I enjoy spreading the love to so many of my friends out there. And as I did recently with a PPCT member, I'll be giving more accounts out to PPCT members in the near future (when I get more invites). So stay tuned! 8)

Its humerous. Yesterday one of my students came up to me and said "Do you have any spare gmail accounts?". I don't have ANY gmail accounts... and now feel terribly out of the loop. I don't really know if I'd use one, since i'm pretty satisfied with my current setup and space isn't an issue. If it were, Yahoo (My primary in box) has good filters and gave me 2 GB of space recently...

14 email accounts ?

hmm ... I got only 5 (1 office, 1 hotmail, 1 softhome, 1 ISP, 1 Spymac) and I already felt that I have too many.

Not if you have them forwarding to Gmail. :p

Yeh, 14's a good amount. I've got email accounts somewhere in the double figures too. But I love Gmail way too much atm.

Hmmm... how can you get Hotmail accounts to forward to Gmail?

I've been trying to get them to...but I haven't seen any ways of doing it :?

AFAIK, it's not possible (at least on the site itself). However, I would love to be proved wrong...

Isn't forwarding email a "pay for use" feature in Hotmail? :? Sure, you can forward mail to your phone but that's not the same thing.

Btw, am I the only one without a Gmail account? It sure looks that way...

Pay to have email redirected to another account?!? You're better off not having the Hotmail account full stop. ROFL!

Btw, am I the only one without a Gmail account? It sure looks that way... Crying or Very sad

Relax...I'll dish some out to PPCT members pretty soon (once more invite links appear in my Gmail account). 8)

Ok, I'm feeling more relaxed now... ;)

Has anyone heard of a official start date for (the open) Gmail? Even a rumored one, possibly??

Apparently August 21, provided all bugs, issues, etc. etc. are ironed out by then.

I'll try to give some invites too...but I think Gmail has stopped giving them for a while :?

IMHO Gmail's usefulness is good enough a reason to want an invite so badly, not just because its a big secret beta

Yes - there's a button in the Spam folder. My guess is it looks a little spammy because of the ad in the middle and the nature of the email headers when the mass-mailing is done.

Yep, this happened to me when I changed the email addy the newsletters got sent to. All I had to do was to "unspam" it in Gmail, and problem solved.

I've had my g-mail for about 90 days so far and love it. Gave away 5 invitations, saving 1 for a rainy day.

It's raining in Utah.

Same here in Perth. Well not that I need more Gmail accounts anyway.

Unfortunately, although don't quote me on this one, I think Gmail has stopped providing invites because the public release date is drawing nearer (provided that all bugs have been ironed out by then).

I gotta get to Perth someday.
It's on my list of places to go.

Finally new invites (well, one/ person). Open up a conversation and there'll be a new link "invite xxx to gmail" . :)

Sorry, I used it up already though. :D
