Tablet PC 1.0 is an open source .NET CF application by Vladimir Ralev that enables you to use your Pocket PC as a touchpad/graphics tablet/keyboard/mouse for your desktop. As an avid Wacom tablet user, all I can say is: "Wow!". If you feel the same: the linked page includes lots of information on this application, including a code review.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/marlof-june04-tabletpc10.jpg" />

Cool, will have to try this again. I tried the first alpha/beta version and it was incredibly buggy, but a good idea.

That's great. I've often wondered if this would be possible because from time to time a graphics pad would be really handy.

Since I just happen to have a spare PPC I'll have to check it out.

This works extremely well. Rather than going through the trouble of setting up a LAN connection, I'm just using the web server on my desktop and connecting via my host name. I'm using it right now with MS Paint. I'm having a lot more difficulty using it in text mode - it'll type ok for a while, then the letters won't work, and I can't get the focus back to my desktop keyboard.

Can we hope for another member of the Thoughts Media Group to be Tablet PC Thoughts?

Well, that has almost nothing to do with this topic (read the first sentence), but I too hope to see a Tablet PC Thoughts one of these days. :D

Yes, but they just released a new version.

Whats the difference between this one and the latter link? I downloaded it after seeing that article and it's version 1.0, was that a beta?

They updated that page on codeproject too...they don't want people downloading old versions.

In 1.0, there's a new Graphics Mode that allows the functionality you've actually expect. Now, a tap on the screen is a click. A stroke on the screen is a click, drag, and release. In the previous version clicking required triple tapping and strokes only moved the mouse cursor.

Ah ok, mine is triple tap for a click, it was always akward, but I always liked the program.

Whoops, I meant to say that triple tapping initiates a click and hold.

BTW, in graphics mode, it restricts your writing area on the screen to whatever resolution is on your PPC.

Like others here, I tried this when the early version was released. I found that it scored high on the "kewl, gee wiz" factor, but was too buggy to work well or be very useful.

I installed the new version, and it works very well indeed. I don't have immediate needs for the capability, but it is so kewl, I'm going to use it
... W?BIC!

Well done Vladimir... I salute you :way to go:

Cool- been meaning to try this out since it was last posted here. Anyone got it saved, or hosted else where- cant be bothered to sign up to the code project and get a ton of junk :)

Just out of curiosity, are you guys using this for graphics only or is there some "general purpose" uses that are not occuring to me?

I'm always in favor of the W?BIC! mindset. However, since I can't draw to save my life (eveything looks like stick figures) I'm not sure if there is anything else it does that would be useful for the drawing-challenged like me. Are you folks all doing sketch art with this?

Same here. When I originally posted on it, I thought it was cool, but could see no practical use of this for myself.

Any cool tricks /uses you could share with us?

I can't draw to save my soul either, but do use a Wacom tablet frequently in Photshop. There are a number of PS 'Tools' where it comes in handy. So even though I can't draw, I can color between the lines. :)

Too bad this is a .NET CF app. It would have rocked to use my Intermec as tablet mode and use this program. Still...I'll try it out with my Ipaq.

Graphics Mode could also be useful for handwriting recognition. While not necessarily useful in English, Windows XP also supports Chinese handwriting recognition.
